At least six people died, while multiple others sustained burn injuries, after a chariot, as part of the procession during Krishnastami celebrations, came in contact with live electric wires in Hyderabad.

The incident happened at nearly 12 am on Sunday at Gokulnagar in Ramanthapur.

Videos from the incident spot showed ambulances lined up amid heavy rain, as those affected were being shifted to hospitals.

Those deceased were identified as Krishnayadav (21), Suresh Yadav (34), Srikanth Reddy (35), Rudra Vikas (39), and Rajendra Reddy (45).

According to the details, they died on the spot due to electrocution.

Their bodies were shifted to Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem.

Four others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a nearby private hospital.

Among the injured is Srinivas, a gunman attached to Union Minister Kishan Reddy, according to reports.

Hyderabad experienced spells of rain through Sunday, with showers reported across several parts of the city by night.

Light to moderate rain was also reported from many other parts of Telangana.

Meanwhile, BRS working president KT Rama Rao expressed grief over the accident and the loss of lives.

“I am profoundly saddened by the death of five young individuals due to an electric shock. This accident, happening during a festive occasion, is extremely distressing,” KTR wrote in an X post.

“I express my heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. I wish for a speedy recovery for those who were injured. Authorities must take appropriate precautions to ensure such accidents do not recur,” he added.

In another incident, a 15-year-old boy died and another person suffered injuries after an electric pole fell on a group of people during the Dahi Handi celebration on Janmashtami in Gujarat’s Kutch district on Saturday evening.

The incident, captured on video, showed an electric pole tied to a rope collapsing on a group of people watching the “matki fod” (breaking the pot of curd) event, also called Dahi Handi, after some persons tried to tug at the rope.

As the pole fell under pressure from the rope, it left two persons standing on the ground grievously injured.

They were rushed to a nearby community health centre for treatment.

One of them, identified as Ishwar Varchand (15), died during treatment.

Mothers FOD,” or Dahi Handi is a traditional game organised on Janmashtami, celebrated to mark the birth of Lord Krishna, in which an earthen pot filled with curd or other treats is tied to a rope suspended high in the air and participants try to reach and break it.
