At least five people were killed, while nearly 25 others were injured after an explosion rocked a firecracker factory in Punjab’s Sri Muktsar Sahib on Friday.

According to the details, the two-storey building collapsed following the explosion, trapping several labourers on the site.

A rescue operation was underway.

The incident occurred in the two-storey factory unit located on the Singhawali-Kotli road in Sri Muktsar Sahib, news agency PTI quoted Lambi’s Deputy Superintendent of Police, Jaspal Singh, as saying.

The cause behind the blast was under investigation, the DSP said.

A team of the local police and the administration arrived at the spot soon after receiving information about the blast.

Those injured were shifted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bathinda.

On Wednesday, a couple and their two children suffered serious burn injuries after the leakage of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) triggered an explosion and a fire at their home in Pune.

The family lived in a small room in Wadkar Mala locality, an official said.

Preliminary information suggests there was a gas leak as the stove knob was loose, and when the woman lit the stove using a lighter in the morning, it triggered the explosion.
