2. India’s T20 Squad Announcement Today
The national selectors are set to announce India’s squads for the upcoming tours of Ireland and England, with all eyes on the T20 captaincy.
Reports suggest that Shreyas Iyer could replace Suryakumar Yadav as India’s T20 captain as the team begins preparations for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and the next T20 World Cup.
Meanwhile, 15-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi is expected to earn his maiden national call-up following a standout IPL season.
India will also take on Afghanistan in a one-off Test match in New Chandigarh today before a three-match ODI series later this month.
3. US-Iran Talks Approach Crucial Phase
Attention will remain focused on the ongoing negotiations between the United States and Iran as both sides attempt to preserve a fragile ceasefire and avoid a wider regional conflict.
While US President Donald Trump has expressed optimism about a possible breakthrough “over the weekend”, senior Iranian officials have said talks are currently at a “deadlock” and that the next move rests with Washington.
A key sticking point remains Tehran’s demand for the release of $24 billion in frozen Iranian assets as part of a broader agreement.

The southwest monsoon has strengthened over Kerala, triggering heavy rainfall across several districts.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a Red Alert for Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Malappuram today, warning of extremely heavy rainfall, possible flooding and landslides.
Authorities have advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert as intense showers are expected to continue through the weekend.
5. Congress-JMM Rift Over Rajya Sabha Polls

The development comes a day after the Congress announced senior party leader Pranav Jha as its candidate for one of the two Rajya Sabha seats from Jharkhand.
Amid growing speculation over seat-sharing, Chief Minister and JMM executive president Hemant Soren chaired a meeting of the party’s legislators in Ranchi on Friday to discuss the Rajya Sabha elections.
Following the meeting, JMM leader and state minister Hafizul Hassan told reporters that the party believes it should field candidates for both seats.
Stay tuned throughout the day for the latest developments on these stories.
