Pakistan hockey has been plunged into fresh turmoil, with senior players threatening to boycott the second phase of the men’s FIH Pro League in February over an explosive dispute surrounding unpaid daily allowances.

Several members of the national squad have warned the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) that they will not travel unless the issue is resolved — turning what should be a historic Pro League campaign into a looming crisis.

Players allege they were promised a daily allowance of PKR 30,000 for the first phase of the Pro League in Argentina earlier this month, but were instead paid just PKR 11,000.

“We were assured 30,000 rupees per day,” one senior player said. “But what we received was 11,000. That’s a sham. At current exchange rates, that’s the difference between $110 and $40 — and it matters a lot to us.”

Pakistan played four matches in Argentina, losing all four, and are scheduled to play another four games in Australia in February. However, participation now hangs in the balance.

The PHF has pushed the responsibility onto the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), which it says follows a standard policy of paying athletes $40 per day for overseas events.

“PHF policy is to pay 30,000 rupees daily,” PHF Secretary Rana Mujahid explained. “But since PSB is funding the entire Pro League participation, including travel and hotels, our hands are tied.”

The dispute is especially damaging given Pakistan’s long-awaited return to the elite level. They earned Pro League promotion after finishing runners-up at the Hockey Nations Cup in Malaysia, stepping in after champions New Zealand declined participation.
