The doors of four Dhams of Uttarakhand have started closing for winter. The journey to Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri has been completed. The time of the yatra will be completed with the closing of the doors of Badrinath Dham on 17th November. Till now 46.74 lakh pilgrims have visited Chardham.
This year there was a decline of more than 10 lakh in the number of pilgrims visiting Chardham. The reason for this is the increase in the number of disasters like landslides due to rain. This time there was 20 more days of rain on the Chardham Yatra route. Due to this, 12% more rainfall than normal was recorded.
Normally 1121 mm rainfall is recorded but this time 1230 mm rainfall occurred. The number of passengers in 2023 was more than 56 lakh. This is the record for the highest number of passengers in the history of travel.
Army bands and traditional instruments were played during the closing of the doors of Kedarnath.
Kedarnath road remained closed for a month. From May to mid-July, about 31 lakh devotees had visited Chardham. After this, natural disasters wreaked havoc due to heavy monsoon rains. After a cloudburst on the Kedarnath footpath on the night of 31 July, about 150 meters of the highway near Son Prayag was closed. It took more than a month to get the highway ready again.
16 lakh devotees reached Kedarnath, 12 lakh reached Badrinath. Among the Char Dham, maximum number of devotees are reaching Kedarnath. This year 16.52 lakh devotees visited Kedarnath. Whereas, 12.98 lakh devotees visited Badrinath, 8.15 lakh Gangotri and 7.14 lakh pilgrims visited Yamunotri Dham. 1.83 lakh devotees also reached Shri Hemkunt Sahib for darshan.
Adi Kailash Yatra also stopped, 40 thousand devotees arrived The doors of Adi Kailash located in Pithoragarh district have also been closed for devotees. This year more than 40 thousand devotees reached Adi Kailash. Which is the largest number of passengers arriving here till date. With the construction of road till Adi Kailash, reaching here became quite easy.
For the first time the number of devotees was limited, only 15 thousand could visit Kedarnath every day.
- Last year, a record 56 lakh people had reached Charon Dham, due to which the arrangements had deteriorated. This time, Uttarakhand Police and Tourism Department limited the daily number of devotees in Char Dham Yatra.
- Last year, more than 60 thousand pilgrims were coming to the four Dhams every day for darshan. According to Tourism Secretary Sachin Kurve, this time a limit of 15 thousand devotees reaching Kedarnath in a day was kept.
- This year, 16 thousand people were allowed daily darshan in Badrinath Dham, 9 thousand in Yamunotri and 11 thousand in Gangotri. That means 51 thousand people could visit Char Dham every day.
- For the first time, more than 400 doctors were deployed on the Char Dham Yatra route. Of these, 256 were emergency medical officers and specialist doctors.
Characteristics and route map of Char Dham
1. Yamunotri
Yamunotri is the westernmost temple of Garhwal in Uttarakhand. Yamunotri is the origin place of Yamuna river. It is known for the Goddess Yamuna Temple and the sacred thermal springs of Janaki Chatti. Yamuna Temple was built by Maharaja Pratap Shah of Tehri Garhwal.
Famous Places and Temples: Yamunotri Temple, Saptarishi Kund, Surya Kund, Divya Shila, Hanumanchatti, Kharsali.
2. Gangotri
Gangotri is at an altitude of 3200 meters above sea level in Uttarkashi. There is a temple of the holy river Ganga here. Where people take darshan after bathing.
Famous Places and Temples: Bhojbasa, Gangnani, Kedartal, Gaumukh, Gangotri temple, Bhairon Ghati, submerged Shivling, Tapovan.
3. Kedarnath
The temple of Lord Shiva is in Kedarnath. It is at an altitude of 3,584 meters above sea level. There is Mandakini river here. Kedarnath Dham is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva.
Famous Places and Temples: Gandhi Sarovar, Phata, Son Prayag, Triyugi Narayan Temple, Chandrapuri, Kalimath, Vasuki Tal, Shankaracharya Samadhi, Gaurikund.
4. Badrinath
Badrinath is situated at an altitude of 3133 meters above sea level on the left side of the Alaknanda River. There is a temple of Lord Vishnu here.
Famous Places and Temples: Pandukeshwar, Yogdhyan Badri Temple, Mana Village, Satopanth Lake, Tapt Kund, Neelkanth Shikhar, Charan Paduka, Mata Murti Temple, Narada Kund, Bhima Pul, Ganesh Cave, Brahma Kapal, Sheshnetra, Vyas Cave etc.
