The British PM Keer Stmper on Sunday announced the recognition of Palestine from 10 Downing Street in London.
Britain, Canada, Australia and Portugal formally recognized Palestine as an independent country on Sunday. With this, the number of countries recognizing Palestine has now increased to around 150.
Britain’s Prime Minister Kir Stmper said that two nation solutions are the way of peace. Canada and Australia also made statements on the same line, while Portugal’s Foreign Minister said that this is the only way to permanent peace.
This step has increased the pressure on Israel to reduce humanitarian crisis in Gaza. However, the US still does not recognize Palestine as a country. At the same time, France has also announced that it will vote in favor of recognizing Palestine in the UN this week.
Netanyahu said- this step rewarding terrorism
At the same time, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu said that to consider Palestine of Britain, Australia and Canada to be a reward of terrorism. The Palestinian country will not be formed to the west of the Jordan River.
He also said that his government has doubled the Jewish settlements in the West Bank and will further increase it. Netanyahu warned that he would respond to this recognition after returning from America.
Why did Britain decide?
The British PM said that the decision has not been taken to punish Israel, but if Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu had taken military action in Gaza in a less violent manner and international laws, this step would not have been taken.
Earlier, British Deputy PM David Lammy had said that if the UK recognizes Palestine, it would not mean that a new country will be built immediately. He said that recognition is just part of a peace process. Lammy said that such a step is being taken so that the expectation of ‘two state solution’ remains.
Two state solution is a proposed way to resolve long -running conflicts between Israel and Palestine. Under this, both Israel and Palestine will be recognized as separate, independent countries.
Canada said- Palestine will become a democratic country
Canadian PM Mark Carney says that this step is to bring peace in the Middle East and to save two-state solution. In this solution, Palestine will become an independent and democratic country, which will be peacefully with Israel.
Canada said that he wants to maintain the hope of peace by recognizing Palestine. This step does not support Hamas, but demands that Hamas leave the hostages, put arms, and do not take any role in the Palestine government.
At the same time, Australian PM Anthony Albanies said-
Australia respects the will of the Palestinian people. This step shows our old effort for two-state solution, which is the only way to bring peace for Israel and Palestine.
Palestine also appealed to America for recognition
Palestine has praised the decisions of Britain, Canada and Australia. Palestine has also appealed to the US and those countries who have not yet recognized it.
Palestinian President Mahmood Abbas said that this move of Britain is necessary for permanent peace in the region. At the same time, Palestinian Foreign Ministry said- We welcome the decisions of Britain, Canada and Australia. This is a step towards saving two-state solution and bringing peace.
So far more than 60 thousand people have been killed in Israel-Hamas Jung, while more than 20 lakh people living in Gaza have had to leave their homes.
Trump refuses to recognize Palestine
The British PM has taken this decision at a time when many US politicians pressured Britain not to do so. He said that this would not only affect the security of Israel, but will also make the status of the families of those held hostage in Hamas occupied in Gaza.
During his visit to Britain last week, US President Donald Trump also clearly stated that his opinion does not match Britain to recognize Palestine.
On the other hand, Israel has strongly criticized the move and said that recognizing Palestine is actually like rewarding terrorism.
Britain supported creating a Jewish country in 1917
This decision of Britain and France is important because they are not only included in Group 7 (G7), but also a member of the UN Security Council.
Britain and France have been historic in Middle East politics. After the defeat of the Ottoman Empire in the First World War, the two countries divided the region into their parts. Britain then got the authority over Palestine.
In 1917, Britain released the Balfor manifesto, which supported the creation of their country for the Jews. But the part of the manifesto, in which it was said to protect the rights of the Palestinian people, never seriously implemented.
Britain has been supporting two state solutions for a long time, but its condition has been that Palestine should be given as part of the recognition peace plan. Now Britain officials fear that such a solution is almost impossible.
