Two soldiers were killed in action in the overnight exchange of fire in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam as the anti-terror operation — Op Akhal — entered its ninth day, the Indian Army said on Saturday.

Four soldiers had sustained injuries in the encounter, of whom two succumbed to their injuries.

The bravehearts were identified as L/Nk Pritpal Singh and Sep Harminder Singh, Chinar Corps said.

“Chinar Corps honours the supreme sacrifice of the Bravehearts, L/Nk Pritpal Singh and Sep Harminder Singh, in line of duty for the Nation. Their courage and dedication will forever inspire us,” the Army posted on X.

Firing continued in the hills of Kulgam, officials said.

“The terrorists are heavily armed and carrying sophisticated weapons with them,” they said.

The encounter broke out on August 1 after security forces launched a cordon and search operation in a forest area at Akhal in the south Kashmir district, following specific information about the presence of heavily armed terrorists in the area.

A top cop said that the forces were using all means, including drones and helicopters, to hunt terrorists in the forest area.
