West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee laid the foundation stone of her ambitious ‘Durga Aangan’ complex in Kolkata. On this occasion, he said that Maa Durga will be seen here 365 days of the year and this is an effort to preserve the cultural heritage of Bengal. CM Mamta said that this will be the world’s largest Durga Aangan, where one lakh devotees will be able to visit every day.
The Chief Minister said that along with Durga Puja, this complex will be a cultural centre, which will promote local trade and handicrafts. by UNESCO Kolkata Referring to Durga Puja being given the status of ‘intangible heritage’, he said that Durga Aangan is a symbol of ‘unity in diversity’ of Bengal. This complex will be constructed in two lakh square feet, its sanctum sanctorum will be 54 meters high.
There will be 108 statues and 64 lion statues in the entire Durga Aangan complex, along with which a cultural museum will also be built. Mamata Banerjee said that a trust has been formed under the leadership of the Chief Secretary for the operation of this complex. He claimed that in terms of attracting foreign tourists west bengal It is at second position in the country and soon it will be at first position.
Mamta enumerated her works for Hindu places
He also listed out his government’s works for Hindu religious places, including the Dakshineswar Skywalk, Kalighat temple redevelopment, Kapil Muni Ashram at Gangasagar and construction of a new bridge. Mamata Banerjee Said, ‘Gangasagar Mela is completely organized by the state government with its own funds, we do not get any help from anyone. I tried for 12 years to get assistance from the Center for the construction of the bridge there, but nothing happened. Now we have sanctioned Rs 1700 crore for the new bridge so that the devotees do not have to cross the river. I will lay its foundation stone on January 5. We have declared Nabadwip as a holy city and we are providing government assistance to Mayapur Mayapur (birth place of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu).

On BJP’s allegations of Muslim appeasement, Mamata Banerjee said that she is truly secular and participates in events of every religion. He said that every religion has its own traditions and they should be respected. She said, ‘You cannot show me a single religion whose program I do not participate in. I cover my head when I go to Gurudwara functions, so why is it questioned during Roza? Today I have come here, that is why I am wearing this shawl. Because Hindu women cover their heads (with veil) during religious events, it is our culture. Every religion has its own rules. But these people want to destroy everything.

Taking aim at BJP, Mamata Banerjee said that in the states ruled by the saffron party, Bengalis are being asked for proof of being Indians and those who speak Bengali are being called Bangladeshis, which is not acceptable.

He said, ‘Will the people living in Bengal now have to prove that they are Indians? What is the relationship between citizenship and voting rights? I live here, I was born here, this is my identity, this is my identity, this is my love. But those who speak Bengali are being termed as Bangladeshi. The partition of the country took place in 1947, but before that we were all together. But most of the people who came during 1971 (Bangladesh Liberation Movement) are citizens of this place. If those who come to the country by 2024 can be given citizenship, then what about those who sacrificed their lives for this country? Won’t you think about them?’
The fight for democratic rights will continue
Mamta Banerjee said that her fight for democratic rights will continue. He said, ‘Remember, we are keeping an eye on everyone. But our patience also has a limit. Don’t forget that the people of Bengal will never bow their heads. The democratic rights of every person should be paramount and we will continue this fight. We will have to take this oath once again at this holy place dedicated to Maa Durga. He ended his speech with slogans of ‘Jai Maa Durga’ and ‘Jai Bangla’.
