Security forces killed Maoist organization CPI (Maoist) general secretary and most notorious Nambala Keshav Rao alias Basavraju in the dense forests of Tri-Junction Abujhmad in Narayanpur-Bijapur-Dantewada districts of Chhattisgarh. It is considered a historical success in the anti -Naxalism campaign. A total of 27 Naxalites have been killed in this operation ended on Wednesday. The most important name in this is Basavaraju, which had been the strategist of the most dangerous Naxal network for the last four decades.
The Chhattisgarh government had declared a reward of one crore rupees on Nambala Keshav Rao alias Basavaraju. In Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Maharashtra, different prizes were also declared on him. It was counted among the selected Naxal leaders who were among both the Polit Bureau and the Central Committee the highest bodies. He was considered a Naxal leader who was never caught in the forest due to his three -tier security system and network. But this time the security forces have killed him by dodging him.
Basavaraju was born in Jiannapeta village in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh. He did BTech from Engineering College in Warangal. But after studying he picked up the gun. In the 1970s, he started working with many pseudo -names like Prakash, Krishna, Vijay, Umesh and Kamalu by joining the Naxalite movement. He was initially a grassroots worker, but soon became expert in the organization’s strategy and weapons training. In 1992, he was made a member of the Central Committee of People’s War Group.
At that time, the general secretary of this group used to be Ganapati. Basavaraju received training in guerrilla warfare from leaders like Ganapati and Sitaramaiah. He gradually mastered the operation of military strategy, ID and landmine. In the year 2018, Basavaraju was appointed as General Secretary of CPI (Maoist). He replaced Ganapati, who left the post due to age and disease. But Basavaraju’s weakness was that he did not have the experience of running the organization politically.
Basavaraju’s death like breaking the backbone of Naxal network
Therefore, security experts believe that the Maoist movement became strategically weakened during his tenure. However, he was responsible for military operations and plotted several major attacks in Bastar. Security expert and professor Dr. Girishkant Pandey says, “Basavaraju was a military strategist but lacked political thinking. The Maoist movement under his leadership lost the direction. That is why the Maoist movement wanders.

Security forces managed to break the security cordon
Security forces had received intelligence that the Central Committee of the organization, including Basavaraju and several members of the Polit Bureau, were camping at Narayanpur-Beijapur-Dantewada TRAI of Abujhmad. After this, the District Reserve Guards, STF and other units of four districts Narayanpur, Bijapur, Dantewada and Kondagaon started joint operation. In this campaign which lasted 70 hours, a large forest area was laid siege. There was heavy firing during the encounter. Security forces managed to break the security cordon of Basavaraju.
Basavraju dies, shock for Naxalites
Basavaraju was killed in this campaign. A DRG soldier was killed in the operation, while some others were injured. A large amount of weapons, ammunition and electronic materials were recovered. The CPI (Maoist) has suffered a major setback due to his death. According to security experts, now there is no experienced leader left in the organization who is between 40 and 50 years of age and has a leadership capacity. The current leadership is either elderly or inexperienced. Due to this, there is a possibility of scattering of Naxalite network.
