Twelve people, including 11 skydivers and a pilot, were killed after a plane crashed shortly after takeoff from Butler Memorial Airport in Missouri on Sunday, according to authorities.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the crash occurred near the airport in Butler, a city about 60 miles south of Kansas City. In a post on X, the agency said initial reports indicated that all 12 occupants on board had died.
“At this time reports indicate all occupants (12 total) have perished,” the patrol said.
The victims were identified as 11 skydivers and the pilot, a spokesperson for Bates County Emergency Management told local television station Fox4.
The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said preliminary information showed that a Pacific Aerospace P750 aircraft crashed while departing Butler Memorial Airport at about 11:35 a.m. local time with 12 people on board.
The FAA said it was not providing air traffic control services at the time of the crash. The agency added that the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will lead the investigation and provide further updates as authorities work to determine the cause of the accident.
