In a bizarre and shocking incident, a one-year-old child made headlines after reportedly biting a snake to death in a remote village in Bihar.
The incident took place in Mohachchhi Bankatwa village in West Champaran district of Bihar when the toddler, identified as Govind Kumar, was brought to the government medical college and hospital in Bettiah town by his family members, news agency PTI reported.
According to hospital superintendent Duvakant Mishra, the boy was taken to his village’s primary health centre after he fainted soon after chewing on a live cobra.
“The boy was referred here yesterday by the primary health centre close to his village where he was rushed by family members after he fainted soon after chewing on the live snake,” he said.
“Family members claimed he caught hold of their snake at their house. He was spotted with the serpent by his grandmother and by the time she could intervene, the reptile was bitten by the child. The cobra lay dead on the floor while the child also fell unconscious”, he said.
He added that the child was being monitored by doctors and treatment for poisoning would start if the boy showed any symptoms.
Last year, a similar incident came into limelight when a one-year toddler reportedly bit a snake to death. The incident took place in Jamuhar village of Gaya district in Bihar, when the toddler spotted a snake while he was playing on his terrace and allegedly bit the snake. While the reptile died, the boy is out of danger, leaving his family as well as doctors surprised.
The mother of the toddler said that the child was playing on the terrace when he picked up the reptile mistaking it for a toy, and allegedly bit it. When she saw the baby chewing the snake, she immediately took it out of his mouth and took the child to the hospital.
