Several travellers sustained injuries after 10 accidents occurred at the same spot in a road stretch in Pune within a span of merely three hours, officials said.
No fatalities were reported in the accidents that took place on the stretch from Dehu to Yelawadi in Maval taluka in the city. Many two-wheeler riders were injured after they slipped on a muddy patch on the road. The incidents were recorded on the CCTV.
The road is severely damaged, full of large potholes. The authorities reacted to the complaints by the locals and tried a quick fix by filling the potholes with soil.
Things went from bad to worse as the recent rain turned the soil into slippery mud, which spread across the road and led to several accidents.
Locals are blaming the poor road maintenance on government negligence and are demanding immediate and proper action to prevent any loss of life.
Earlier this month, a newly inaugurated bridge in Dombivli, near Mumbai, sparked outrage after a video surfaced online showing damage just a day after it opened. The video shows parts of the road near a pothole breaking apart like thin sheets, bringing the quality of construction into the spotlight.
