Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman wants to make his country a major investment and tourism center in the world by extracting oil earnings. But the Yemen war from which they were trying to escape for the last 11 years has once again surrounded them. Iran-backed Houthi rebels are targeting Saudi cities, airports and oil bases. According to experts, Saudi Arabia’s problems have increased due to many wrong decisions. Last year, the old partnership between Saudi Arabia and UAE broke down regarding Yemen. Trump also did not support Salman in the fight against Saudi. Now Saudi Arabia is running a new campaign against the Houthis with the help of its allies, but the way out of the war is not clear. Saudi strategy weakened as soon as UAE withdrew. Saudi Arabia and UAE were earlier fighting together against Houthi rebels in Yemen. But later the interests of both started clashing. The biggest fight was over who should rule Yemen after the war and what kind of rule it should have. Saudi Arabia – supports the internationally recognized government in Yemen. UAE stands with STC demanding a separate country in Yemen. In late 2025, STC captured several areas of southern Yemen. Saudi Arabia felt that this could put the security of its border in danger. After this, in December 2025, Saudi Arabia carried out an air attack on Mukalla Port. Saudi alleged that weapons coming from UAE were being unloaded there. Whereas UAE said that there were no weapons in the ships and the goods were for its soldiers deployed in Yemen. After this the tension between the two countries increased further. UAE withdrew its troops fighting against Houthi rebels in Yemen. This had an impact on the groups fighting against the Houthis in Yemen. Thousands of fighters prepared with the support of UAE suddenly separated from their old command. Saudi Arabia could not create a similar strong system in its place. This gave the Houthis an opportunity to become stronger. Iran war again dragged Saudi Arabia. After breaking the partnership with UAE, Saudi Arabia was still trying to establish its foothold in Yemen when America and Israel started war against Iran. Following the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, his funeral took place in July. To participate in this, the Houthi delegation reached Tehran by plane. When they were returning, they were told to return only by Yemen’s national airline. They will not be allowed to board Iranian airlines. At the same time, Houthi officials remained adamant on landing the Iranian aircraft directly in Sanaa. After this, government-backed forces bombed the runway of Sana’a airport, so that Iranian aircraft could not land there. After this the plane had to change its route and land at Hodeidah Airport. The Houthi rebels became so angry with this incident that they broke the 4-year-old ceasefire with Saudi. Asked for help from Trump, but America withdrew its hands. Saudi Arabia hoped that America would help it militarily if needed. Both countries had also increased defense cooperation. But this confidence appeared to be weakening in the case of action against the Houthis. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman spoke to US President Donald Trump twice last month and urged him to attack the Houthis, CNN reported. Trump did not intervene directly militarily. Instead, the US negotiated with the Houthis in Oman to maintain its ceasefire with them. Saudi Arabia is now gathering help from other countries. France has agreed to send defense resources and military personnel, while Britain has said it will send aircraft to refuel Saudi fighter planes. Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan have also agreed to increase defense cooperation. Impact of war on Saudi Arabia’s economy: Mohammed bin Salman wants to take Saudi Arabia’s economy out of dependence on oil. For this, they are increasing places to visit, sports, movies and entertainment in the country. Big projects are also being started. But the threat to these plans has increased due to continuous attacks. Due to tension in the area, many film festivals, award shows and major music events have had to be postponed this year. There is also a possibility that the big investment meeting to be held in Saudi Arabia at the end of October will be affected. Attacks on oil sites and stoppage of oil supply may reduce the country’s income. Saudi Arabia is now taking the help of its fellow groups in Yemen to fight the Houthis. But experts say that this fight will not end merely by air strikes and capturing some areas. There is no agreement on many things among the groups fighting in Yemen. They also do not agree on what the future government of Yemen should be like. Difficult to stop Houthis, threat to oil business. Saudi Arabia is facing two big problems. First, to stop the attacks of Houthis and protect our borders and oil bases. Second, to find a way to end the war in Yemen so that it does not have to attack again and again. Experts say that as long as the fighting between America and Iran continues, Iran can put pressure on Saudi Arabia with the help of Houthis. In such a situation, it will be difficult for Saudi Arabia to maintain peace for a long time only with weapons and air strikes. Saudi Arabia wanted the war in Yemen to stay away from its borders, but now this war has become a big problem for it. This is affecting the country’s security, oil earnings and development plans. Now the biggest challenge before Mohammed bin Salman is how to take the country forward on the path of development, while it is not yet clear when the war in Yemen will end.
