Former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina has blamed the head of the interim government, Mohammad Yunus, for the increasing anti-India sentiment in the country. In a mail interview to ANI news agency, Hasina described India as Bangladesh’s most reliable friend.

He said that the policies of the Yunus government have soured relations between the two countries. The interim government is making statements against India and has failed to protect the minorities.

He also said that the concern being expressed about the safety of Indian diplomats is absolutely right. According to Hasina, some fundamentalist forces are openly committing violence, who have attacked the Indian Embassy, ​​media offices and minorities. Yunus government is giving protection to such people and even convicted terrorists have been released.

On Thursday, a Hindu youth, Dipu Chandra Das, was killed by a mob in Bangladesh by falsely accusing him of blasphemy.

Said- Increasing fanaticism in Bangladesh is a threat to South Asia

Sheikh Hasina said that she left Bangladesh to avoid further bloodshed, and not because she was afraid of the law. He says that today law and order in the country has completely deteriorated and violence has become common.

He also expressed concern over the growing influence of radical Islamic organizations and said that this is a threat not only to Bangladesh but to the entire South Asia. Hasina alleged that the Yunus government is showing a liberal face to the outside world, but is giving strength to radicals inside the country.

On the statements being made regarding Siliguri Corridor (Chicken Neck), Hasina said that threatening the neighboring country is irresponsible and this is not the thinking of the Bangladeshi people. He expressed confidence that such statements will end once democracy returns.

Sheikh Hasina said that when Bangladesh gets a re-elected government, then relations with India will become as strong and friendly as before. He also expressed his gratitude for the cooperation and hospitality received by India.

Sheikh Hasina will not return to Bangladesh for now

Hasina told that she will not go back to her country yet. He says that in the current situation, the action being taken against him is not justice but politically motivated. He said that until the right government is formed in Bangladesh and the courts are not independent, their return is not possible.

He said that you cannot expect me to return for my political murder. He challenged the head of the interim government, Mohammad Yunus, to take the case to the International Court of Justice in The Hague if he felt he was right. Hasina is confident that an impartial court will prove her innocent.

Sheikh Hasina came to Delhi from Dhaka by helicopter after violent protests on August 5 last year.

Hasina rejected the death sentence given to her

Sheikh Hasina completely rejected the decision of the International Crimes Tribunal of Bangladesh. He said that this is not a judicial process but a political conspiracy to defame him.

He alleges that he was not given a chance to present his views nor was he allowed to hire a lawyer of his choice. He said that this tribunal is being used to eliminate Awami League.

It is noteworthy that in November, a Bangladesh court had convicted Sheikh Hasina of ‘crimes against humanity’ in a case related to the violence during the July-August 2024 movement. According to local media, he has also been sentenced to death. Former police chief and former home minister have also been convicted in this case.

Hasina said- Yunus government has no validity

Despite all this, Sheikh Hasina said that she still has faith in the country’s constitution. He says that when democracy returns and courts become independent, then true justice will definitely be provided.

Attacking the current interim government, Hasina said that it has no democratic legitimacy as it has not been elected by the people. He said that the country is being taken towards instability.

He also raised questions on the elections to be held in February and said that it is not right to hold elections by banning Awami League. He said that without Awami League, elections would not be elections but just coronation.
