‘हमें सेना से 98 लाख रुपये मिले लेकिन…’, अग्निवीर के पिता ने बेटे के लिए मांगा शहीद का दर्जा

There was a lot of uproar over the Agniveer Recruitment Scheme in the recently concluded Parliament session. Rahul Gandhi cornered the government over the financial assistance to martyred Agniveers. Meanwhile, the family of martyred Agniveer has said that they have received Rs 98 lakh so far.

The army has also claimed that Rs 98 lakh has been paid and about Rs 67 lakh is pending. The family demands that the Agniveer scheme be abolished. There has also been a demand to give the family martyr status and facilities. Ajay Kumar, a brother of six sisters in Chandigarh, dreamt of serving the country and joined the Indian Army as an Agniveer. He was martyred on 18 January.

The family confirmed the army’s claims

Rahul Gandhi had claimed in Parliament that Ajay Kumar’s family has not received any money so far, after which the Army immediately responded that Rs 98 lakh has been paid to the family so far and Rs 67 lakh is pending. Talking to Aaj Tak, Agniveer Ajay Kumar’s family confirmed the Army’s claims and said that they have received Rs 98 lakh.

Giving details about this, Charanjit Singh, father of Agniveer Ajay Kumar, said, ‘First we received the insurance amount of Rs 50 lakh and later we received Rs 48 lakh from the army. So till now we have received Rs 98 lakh and we are sure that the remaining Rs 67 lakh will also be sent to us by the army soon.’

However, he said, ‘The issue is not of money. We want martyr status for our son. He gave his life for the country and till now neither has he been given the status of a martyr nor has he been given any facility given to the martyr’s family.’

‘One crore rupees will not bring our brother back’

Charanjit Singh said, ‘Rahul Gandhi raised the issue of Agniveer in Parliament and what he is saying that this scheme should be abolished is correct.’ He also urged PM Modi to consider this and ensure regular recruitment in the army.

Talking to Aaj Tak, Ajay Kumar’s elder sister Bakhsho Devi said, ‘One crore rupees will not bring our brother back. He had big dreams and he was the only earning member in the family. You take one crore rupees from us and give it back to our brother. One thing should be understood that this is not about money.’

He raised the question that what is the meaning of a four-year job. Can’t they recruit people for a longer period? Agniveer Ajay Kumar’s family lives in a small house and the financial condition of the family is also poor.
