The clash of conservative viewpoints, political interference and freedom of expression has made it the center of controversy. Now some producers and directors have complained about the delay in the Censor Board (CBFC), especially in the Mumbai office where now it takes more than 45 days i.e. two-three months. Earlier the certificate used to be received in 15-20 days, but now small producers are facing a lot of problems.

Producer-director and writer Dheeraj Mishra is struggling since October for his film ‘Nadaan’. He says- Extra fees and delays for small films are causing huge losses. OTT channels are not approved without certificate. Getting censors became harder than making the film. A separate committee should be formed for small budget and regional films and no extra fee should be charged from them. The way low-budget films are being made at a rapid pace, if they are not released on time, they will suffer financial losses and the production of such films may be reduced or even stopped.

Producer-director Dinesh Kumar Yadav is also troubled by the delay in getting the censor certificate in Mumbai. His films ‘Jai Ho Jai Ho Durga Maiya’ and ‘Bitiya Durga Maiya Ki’ were cleared in Delhi (CBFC) in 10 days. But in Mumbai, it takes time due to heavy load of languages ​​like Bhojpuri, Hindi, Marathi. Now ‘Naadan’ got stuck in Delhi also, because the regional officer changed there. The expenses of Delhi are also expensive, because it is difficult for the producers who are from Mumbai to come to Delhi for the censor of the film.

Tatkal system too expensive

The Censor Board’s Tatkal system costs Rs 1.5 lakh, which big producers can pay. Normal fee is around Rs 60,000, still it takes months. Channels ask for certificates for release, meetings get delayed due to delay. Big producers come from the South, but these problems persist for small producers. If observed correctly, it should take 15-20 days.

Dheeraj Mishra says- Due to the extra fees he is paying to the Mumbai Censor Board, his film is getting censored easily. But small producers are not able to pay additional fees. Today, more films are being made because of OTT. Therefore, this department needs some more changes, so that more and more films can be censored at lower fees.

Regarding this problem of producer-director, Dainik Bhaskar tried to contact the landline number of the Censor Board, but the landline number of the Mumbai office of the Censor Board remained unanswered as usual.

Tamil actor Vishal had alleged that officials sitting in the Mumbai office of CBFC had demanded a bribe of Rs 6.5 lakh to pass the censor certificate of the Hindi version of his film ‘Mark Antony’.

When we talked to the Censor Board agent, he told on the condition of anonymity that the Censor Board staff have now become more arrogant. The system has been changed after the South film scandal 2-3 years ago. While the normal fee is 28-32 thousand, the priority fee is three times that (96 thousand) plus theater. Small Bhojpuri producers are not able to fill it. Even in Priority, screening takes 5-7 days, certificate takes 15-20 days. Controversial films get delayed even more. The entry of agents has been stopped and the livelihood of 400-500 of our people has been snatched away.
