- Suvendu Adhikari PA Murder | CBI Probe, 7 Member SIT Formed; Bihar UP Arrests

CBI will now investigate the murder case of Chandranath Rath, personal assistant (PA) of West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.
As soon as CBI took over the case, it formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of 7 members. The team will be led by a DIG rank officer.
So far, 3 accused from Bihar and UP have been arrested in this case. On Monday, the police produced all three in the Barasat Court of North 24 Parganas, from where they were sent to 13-day police custody.
Chandranath, 42, was shot dead in Madhyamgram in North 24 Parganas on May 6, two days after the Bengal election results. The attacker stopped his car and fired several rounds, in which he was hit by three bullets in the chest and stomach.
Firing took place by placing the pistol near the window of Chandranath’s car. Bullet marks were visible on the glass.
3 accused arrested from Bihar and UP
Police have arrested Mayank Raj Mishra, Vicky Maurya and Raj Singh. Mayank and Vicky were arrested from Buxar, Bihar. At the same time, Raj Singh, resident of Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, was caught from Ayodhya on May 10.
After the arrest, a poster of Raj Singh has surfaced. In this he has described himself as the state general secretary of All India Kshatriya Mahasabha. There is a picture in his Facebook account with Minister Dayashankar Singh. He also has a reel with former MP Brij Bhushan Singh.
The court has sent the accused to police custody till May 24. Government lawyer Biwas Chatterjee said that the prosecution had demanded to add a section related to destruction of evidence, which was accepted by the court.
8 people suspected to be involved in the murder
Investigating agencies believe that at least 8 people were involved in the murder conspiracy and incident. The accused had done recce for several days before the incident. Preliminary investigation revealed that the attackers’ car had passed through Bali toll plaza before the murder.
Here a person present in the car had made toll payment through UPI. Through the mobile number linked to this digital transaction, the police identified one accused and then reached out to the rest of the accused.
Police are now matching the identities of the arrested accused with the CCTV footage of the toll plaza and photographs of the vehicle. According to officials, the attackers had adopted several methods to hide their identity and movement.
Attackers’ car and bike seized, number found to be fake
After initial investigation, Bengal Police had suspected the involvement of betel nut killer in Rath’s murder. Police said initial investigation indicated that Rath’s murder was planned and professional shooters may have been involved.
Police seized a car from the spot, from which Rath’s Scorpio was chased. The number plate of the car turned out to be fake. The chassis and engine numbers of the car were erased. Moreover, two bikes were involved in the attack. One of these motorcycles was also found near a tea shop about 4 km away from the spot. It also had a fake number plate.
Suvendu was in TMC, since then Chandranath was with him.
Chandranath was earlier an officer in the Air Force. After taking VRS, worked in the corporate sector for some time. After this he came into politics. Chandranath was working for Suvendu since he was in Trinamool Congress. He was counted among the very close people of Suvendu Adhikari.
Chandranath became a part of Suvendu’s official team in 2019, when Suvendu was a minister in the Mamata Banerjee government. Chandranath had taken charge of Suvendu’s election campaign in Bhawanipur. Bhawanipur is the same seat from where Suvendu defeated Mamata Banerjee in the assembly elections by about 15 thousand votes.
Chandranath’s mother also joined BJP with Suvendu.
Like Suvendu, Chandranath’s family was also earlier associated with TMC. His mother Hashi Rath had held a post in the local panchayat body in Purba Medinipur during the TMC rule, but joined the BJP along with Suvendu Adhikari in 2020.
Chandranath was of a calm nature and low-profile. He completed his studies from Rahara Ramakrishna Mission. Despite being close to Suvendu for many years, he remained away from the limelight. There is no photo of Chandrakat with Suvendu.

Chandranath left Kolkata at around 9 o’clock: Chandranath was returning in a Scorpio from Kolkata to his rented house in Madhyamgram. The driver was driving. Chandranath was sitting next to him.
Scorpio seen in CCTV at 10 pm: Chandranath’s Scorpio was seen passing through the road in a CCTV camera at 9:58 pm in Madhyamgram, about 20 km from Kolkata. Shortly after the Scorpio passed, three people in a car and two bikes were seen going back from the area.
At 10:30 the car blocked the way for Scorpio: Near Dohariya Junction of Madhyamgram, the car overtook the Scorpio and stopped the car in front. The Scorpio driver had to stop the car.
The attacker riding on the bike started firing: Before Chandranath and his driver could understand anything, the bike-riding attackers came from the left side and fired 6 to 10 rounds.
The miscreants ran away leaving the car: After committing the crime, the miscreants left the car there and fled on motorcycles through two different routes.
Car number plate is fake: Police seized the car from the spot, but when the number was checked, it turned out to be fake. The chassis number of the car was also tampered with.
Glock 47X pistol used in murder: The attackers used Glock 47X pistol. No common criminal uses such modern weapons. The way the attack happened, only a professional shooter could have carried it out.
