There is both sadness and anger among the people after the murder of Chandranath Rath, an aide of BJP leader Subhendu Adhikari, in Madhyamgram of North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. According to Kasim Ali, his last conversation was with Chandranath Rath around 6 to 6:30 pm on Wednesday evening. He told, Chandranath had called and said come, let us sit in Nizam Palace. Will chat, drink tea. Will celebrate BJP’s victory. We said that we will not be able to come today, we will meet tomorrow. That was our last talk. But the night before the celebration for which preparations were being made, the sound of gunfire put an end to everything.
Firing of bullets in Madhyamgram
Late Wednesday night, the streets of Madhyamgram suddenly echoed with the sound of gunshots. According to police sources, Chandranath Rath was going in his car when some attackers started chasing him. It is being told that a car and several bikes were continuously following his car. At some distance, the car overtook Chandranath’s car and stopped it and then the bike-riding attackers started firing rapidly from very close range. Chandranath Rath was hit by five bullets. As soon as the bullet was fired, there was chaos in the area. Local people rushed to the spot and took him to the hospital, but doctors declared him dead. As soon as the news of the murder spread, anger spread among BJP workers. Late night a huge crowd gathered at the hospital and the incident site.
Friends said the target was not Chandada but Shubhenduda.
After the murder, Kasim Ali tearfully claimed that the target was Shubhendu Adhikari. Chandranath was among his closest people. Reiki was being done for a long time. The people who attacked knew everything about where he lived and when he came and went. Qasim Ali alleges that this is not an ordinary crime, but a murder done with complete planning. Although the police have not yet officially confirmed this angle, but the investigating agencies are not ruling out the possibility that the attackers were fully aware of the movement.

Qasim Ali also made very serious political allegations during the conversation. He said, Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee could not tolerate the success of Chandranath. After the work Chandranath did in Bhawanipur elections, he became the target. Mamta Banerjee is unable to accept defeat. Qasim Ali said that the people of Bengal will never forget this murder. However, these allegations have not been confirmed and the police is currently investigating all aspects.

Police sources say that initial investigation has revealed that the attackers had come with a very clear target. Other people including the driver were also present in the car, but the attackers targeted only Chandranath Rath. BJP leaders claim that this is an attempt to give a direct political message. Police have found many empty cartridges and live bullets from the incident site. CCTV footage is also being scrutinized.
DGP himself reached the spot
Considering the seriousness of the incident west bengal Director General of Police Siddhanth Gupta himself reached the spot. He said that the police is investigating from all angles and the accused will be arrested soon. DGP said that the car which was used in the crime has been seized. Initial investigation revealed that the number plate of the car was tampered with. Police are also trying to find out how many people were involved in the incident and where the attackers came from.
Increased security in Madhyamgram
After the murder, heavy police force has been deployed in Madhyamgram and surrounding areas. Patrolling continued throughout the night in sensitive areas. Police fear that political tension may increase further after the incident. For this reason, additional security forces have also been put on alert.
