Protests against inflation started in Iran from 28 December 2025.
Following the violence in Iran, no protests were recorded on 16 and 17 January. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei admitted for the first time that thousands of people were killed during the protests that continued since December 28. But he held America responsible for these deaths.
Khamenei said that US President Donald Trump’s hands are stained with blood. Responding to Khamenei’s allegations, Trump also immediately responded. He said that the Iranian government is now a guest for a few days. The time has come to look for new leadership there. Trump said that Tehran’s rulers are ruling with the help of repression and violence.
Demonstrations started in Iran on 28 December 2025 in protest against the historically low fall of the currency ‘Rial’ and inflation. Violence had spread to all 31 provinces of the country. More than 3 thousand people have died in this. Most of the people have died due to bullet injuries.
After this, Trump warned Iran that if the killing of protesters continued, it would have to face serious consequences.

Maulvi Khatami said – the protesters should be hanged
The Iranian government released a video, in which some armed people are seen with common protesters. Iran’s senior cleric and Guardian Council member Ayatollah Ahmed Khatami called him an agent of America and Israel. Also warned that both the countries should not expect peace. He has demanded immediate hanging of the protesters.
Pahlavi appealed to topple the government
Iran’s self-exiled Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi has emerged as a major opposition voice during these protests. He again appealed to topple the government. Seeking intervention from Trump, he said, ‘I am confident that the President will stick to his promise. “Whether any action is taken or not, we the Iranian people have no choice but to continue the struggle.”
White House said – execution of 800 people stopped due to Trump’s pressure
Trump had earlier said that if the Iranian government hangs the protesters, there will be serious consequences. The US will take very strong action, which may also include military options.
On January 15, Trump reported that murders were now decreasing. The White House also confirmed that Iran has halted plans to execute 800 people following pressure from Trump.
UN Assistant Secretary-General Martha Poby told the council that the demonstrations spread rapidly. There has been a lot of loss of life and property in this.
According to human rights organizations, 3,428 protesters have been killed so far, while more than 18,000 people have been arrested. However, the United Nations has not been able to confirm these figures.

On January 14, a group of Iranian students burned an American flag in Tehran.
Know the reason for the protests in Iran…
The violence that started in Iran on December 28 has erupted due to many reasons. These demonstrations are considered to be one of the biggest demonstrations ever.
- Inflation and economic crisis: The price of the Iranian currency rial reached its lowest level in history. The value of 1 US dollar has increased from approximately 1,455,000 to 1,457,000 riyals (open market rate). Even everyday items like tea, bread became very expensive (inflation more than 50-70%).
- Traders’ strike: On December 28, 2025, traders in Tehran’s big market closed their shops and started a protest, which quickly spread throughout the country. People are worried about basic needs.
- Anger against the government: People are raising slogans against Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and the entire system of the Islamic Republic. Many people are demanding to bring back the old monarchy (the rule of the Shah).
- Drastic Action: Security forces opened fire, firing live bullets, causing thousands of deaths (estimates range from 2,000 to 12,000, according to various sources). Internet and phones were shut down, leading to further violence.
- International Tension: The Iranian government is blaming America and Israel for inciting violence. Trump supported the protesters and threatened to intervene.

Why did America step back from attacking Iran: Under what compulsion did Netanyahu stop Trump? Will Khamenei’s Islamic rule remain intact?

On January 15, it seemed that Trump could now order an attack on Iran within a few hours. Netanyahu’s plane went to a ‘safe place’ somewhere outside Israeli air space. Troops started being removed from the American airbase in Qatar. Pizza orders increased around the Pentagon. This happens only when America is about to take some big action. Then suddenly Trump’s attitude towards Iran softened. Read the full news…
