The Supreme Court will today hear the Tamil Nadu government’s petition related to the Cauvery water dispute. The petition demands the Karnataka government to immediately release Tamil Nadu’s share of Kaveri water. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay had moved the Supreme Court on August 3. After this, the Supreme Court said on August 12 that the petitions filed by the Tamil Nadu government and other parties in the case would be heard on August 17. Tamil Nadu is not getting the state’s fixed share of water. The Tamil Nadu government claimed in its petition that both the amount of water fixed for the state by the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) and the water released by Karnataka are very less. At the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) meeting held on July 28, Karnataka was directed to release 3,500 cusecs of water daily for 15 days from July 29. However, according to the Tamil Nadu government, the water flow in Biligundulu between July 29 and August 2 remained between 158 and 550 cusecs. 77.537 TMC of water was accumulated in the dams of Karnataka. In a press release issued by the Tamil Nadu government, it was said that till August 3, a total of 77.537 Thousand Million Cubic Feet (TMC) of water was accumulated in the Kabini, Harangi and Hemavathi dams of Karnataka.
