Syrian President Ahmed Al-Shra arrived in New York to attend UNGA meeting on Sunday.
Syria will join the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) for the first time in 58 years. For this, Syrian President Ahmed Al-Shra has reached New York on Sunday. They will take part in the 80th General Assembly session here. It will run from 23 September to 29 September 2025.
Earlier in 1967, the then Syrian President Noor al-Din Al-Attasi took part in UNGA. This was followed by a 50 -year -long rule of Asad family (Hafiz Asad and Bashar Assad) in Syria.
In December last year, Al-Sara counted the Asad family and became the interim President. Now the Syrian government is engaged in improving relations with America and Western countries.

Emphasis on improving relations with Israel
Syria and Israel’s relationships have long been stressful. After the collapse of Assad, Israel increased airstrikes on Syria. Israel also captured the Golan Heights buffer zone monitored by UN peacekeepers. In this meeting, Al-Shra can insist on improving his relationship with Israel.
Al-Shara recently said that he wants to resume the 1974 disagreement agreement. Last week, he said that there may be a deal soon. But Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu postponed it as ‘future talk’.
On 31 May 1974, an agreement was reached between Israel and Syria, under which the United Nations Peace Sena (UndOF) was established and a buffer zone (height buffer) was formed between the two countries. Its purpose was to stop the military activities between Israel and Syria and maintain peace.
Syrian President met US President after 25 years
In May, US President Donald Trump met Al-Shra in Saudi Arabia. This was the first time after 25 years that an US President had met the Syrian President.
During this time, Trump ordered the removal of several restrictions on Syria. In fact, the US had banned oil, gas, banking and military goods including money transactions to weaken the Assad government.
This ban had cut Syria to a large extent economic, political and technically from the world. The US Parliament enacted a law for strict sanctions on Syria in 2019.
However, there was a provision in this law that the US President could lift these sanctions in view of national security. President Trump removed all the ban using this right.

The Syrian government killed its own people, the US banned
The US imposed the highest ban on Syria after the start of civil war in 2011. The then President Bashar al -Assad’s government had taken violent action against the people.
Thousands of citizens were killed in it. The government was accused of using chemical weapons to kill citizens, which was condemned worldwide.
The US accused the Asad government of supporting organizations such as Hizbullah. Apart from this, Syrian policies, especially with Iran and Russia, were also considered as the cause of instability in West Asia and banned.
Two areas of Syria were attacked with chemical weapons on August 21, 2013. It killed 1,144 people, including 99 children.
Al-Julani was known as Al-Shara
Ahmed al-Shara left medical studies in 2003 and came in contact with al-Qaeda leaders. He was arrested by the US Army in 2005 and sent to jail. After being released from jail, Al-Shara formed the Jabat Al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of Al Qaeda.
In 2016, he separated from Al Qaeda and established Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS). Julani took power after the fall of Bashar al-Assad in December 2024. After this, the world came to know his real name.
