‘सितारे जमीन पर’ में पहली बार 10 स्पेशली एबल्ड एक्टर्स: आमिर बोले- हम लोगों को जल्दी जज कर लेते हैं, इन बच्चों ने मुझे अलग नजरिया दिया

‘If there was a child with a down syndrome in my class in childhood, then perhaps I would have been another better person today – more sensitive, more sensitive … and less ego.’

These words are of actor Aamir Khan, who has learned a new lesson of life by working with 10 specially abated actors in his new film ‘Stars Zameen Par’. In a special interview to Dainik Bhaskar, Aamir told how he felt humanity afresh while working with these children. Read the edited part of this interview …

Question- Choosing specialfied actors, training them. What was the experience?

Perhaps this is the first time that our characters in such a large main stream are such that are intellectually disabled or neuro etipical. But we have followed the same process that we do in every film. These actors have come through casting process. Then he has done workshops and rehearsals. 9 actors are facing the camera for the first time. There are only one who has acted in 1-2 Malayalam films, but they do not know Hindi. Now you think that if I want to do a film in another language, then there will be so much trouble. It is generally believed that those who are intellectually disabled are probably weaker than us, they will not be able to work. But our experience was not like this.

Question- These actors must have learned a lot from you. Have you learned anything from special actors?

I don’t know what they learned from me. But I learned a lot. When he used to come on the set, the atmosphere would change. Their energy is positive. They are always happy. They have no ego. They have a lot of patience. How many of us have this quality? When we make a film, actor, director, cameraman sometimes get angry. But this did not happen even once in this film. No voice raised and used to talk. He has taught us a lot.

Question- On the film’s poster- everyone is normal. Explinate it a little?

Every kind of people will meet in the world. Our feelings are the same in many things. But we all have some different things. We all have our own normal. Every man has some things that someone else feels that this is a very strange man man, how is it doing like this. So he is his normal. We judge people in the society quickly. We feel that what is a little different from me is not normal. This is not right. Think that a child who is suffering from Down syndrome has a different upbringing, studies. He is not invited to the party. It is kept separate. So that neuro diversion grows up among children.

Neuro typical children do not face face to face. So this is wrong for him. There was no child in my class who was suffering from Down syndrome. If I had been, I would have been more sensitive, learning sympathy. I would also learn to be happy. I also learn that ego is not a good thing. I believe that our society should move on this side, where there is no special school. All read in the same school so that they can learn from each other and move forward. It is a matter of humanity. This film is trying to shed light on this matter. The stars used to make us cry on the ground, it makes us laugh. She says deeply, but laughing.

Question- This film is not being released on OTT. What will be the effect on business?

I am not hurt by OTT. But so soon we come to OTT, so our theater business has a bad effect. Like someone says that you buy this from us, otherwise after 8 months we will leave it at home ourselves. So tell me who will buy it? I did not like this business model. Whatever I am today, I am because of the cinema hall. My honesty is with the theater.

Question- Do you have a creative pressure when you choose a film?

No, when I am choosing a script, at that time there is no idea in my mind that a social theme should be raised. I react to stories like audience. As an audience, if the script makes me laugh, makes me cry, touches my heart then I become a part of the film. If there is a social message in the film, then it is a good thing. I am an entertainer and my responsibility is to entertain you.

The film will feature Aamir as a basketball coach.

If you want a leson of socialji, then you go to college. But if you have come to the cinema, then you want entertainment. Yes, perhaps my nature is such that I have an inclination towards such a story. It seems that I find a social subject with magnifying glass, but it is not so. I believe that the first step of the film should be from the writer’s pen. Not that I should tell a writer to write something like this and then he is writing on my instruction.

Question- What space has been reduced for the movies that are out of the box between action and South remake films?

See, this is a period. I remember when Ghazni was coming, which was an action film. At that time I was said that no action film has been run for the last 3-4 years. So you are bringing it on wrong time. But that film did a lot. I think if the story is good then the genre does not matter so much.
