The Swedish Academy of Sweden will announce the Nobel Prize for Literature today. These awards will be announced at 4:30 pm. This award is given to those writers who have made a special contribution to literature by writing excellent books or poems.
The winner will receive 11 million Swedish krona (Rs 10.3 crore), gold medal and certificate. If more than one scientist wins, the prize money is divided among them. The awards will be given on December 10 in Stockholm.
The Guardian, quoting betting company Ladbrokes, has described 5 people as the biggest contenders for this award.
- Haruki Murakami (Japan): He writes magical stories, like ‘Kafka on the Shore’. Murakami has been in the Nobel race for a long time.
- Salman Rushdie (Britain/India): Famous for ‘Midnight’s Children’. He is a big name as a writer of Indian origin.
- Can Shue (China): She writes unique and new types of stories. His book ‘Love in the New Millennium’ was nominated for the Man Booker International Prize in 2019.
- Laszlo Krasnohorkai (Hungary): He writes sad stories with deep thinking. His books ‘SatanTango’ and ‘The Melancholy of Resistance’ have been made into films.
- Margaret Atwood (Canada): Wrote a famous book like ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’. Writes on social issues.

Can Shue was at the forefront last year
Alex Apati, associated with Ladbrokes, told the Guardian that this time the race has increased. Last year, Can Shue was at the forefront. However, Hong Kong of South Korea received this award for the books ‘The Vegetarian’ and ‘Human Acts’.

Tagore was the first Asian writer to receive Nobel Prize.
Rabindranath Tagore was the first Asian writer to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature. This honor was given to him in 1913 for his famous book Gitanjali.
This book is a collection of poems, in which Tagore has written his deep feelings towards life, nature and God in simple and beautiful words.
This was the first time that a non-European had received the Nobel Prize for Literature. The Swedish Academy described his works as having deep emotions and beautiful language.

South Korean writer got Nobel in 2024
Last year i.e. in 2024, South Korean writer Han Kang received the Nobel for Literature. His books are very special because they tell the tragic moments of history and the fragile life of human beings in simple but profound words.
The Swedish Academy said that his writings are like poetry, which touches the heart. Han Kang became the first South Korean writer to win this award. This announcement was made on 10 October 2024.
