Friend, I want to get a solar panel installed. Yes, get it installed. But I am not able to decide which company should I get it installed from. I have taken quotations for 3 Kw solar panel from some companies, but there is a difference in their prices. After subsidy, the average price is ₹1.20 lakh. Look brother… according to me, it would be better to get the panel installed from the company which provides good service.
Service means the company which helps in the entire process of subsidy given by the government, solves any problem while installing the panel and after installing the panel and also takes care of maintenance from time to time. The life of solar panels is 25 years, so after sales service is necessary.
These are some common questions that many people have in their minds before installing solar panels at home. In order to know the answers to many questions related to installing solar panels, we spoke to Radhika Chaudhary, co-founder of Freyr Energy. Read her full interview…
Question: There are many vendors in the market, there is a lot of difference in their prices. In such a situation, how should customers select rooftop solar?
answer: I have been in this business for so many years, yet I cannot understand the quality of the panel with naked eyes. Tier-2 and Tier-3 type products are also available in the market. There is only a difference of 10%-15% in the prices of the panel. If while installing solar, the customer thinks that he has saved 10-15 thousand rupees, but when the panel gets damaged, he has to spend money.
Therefore, the panel should be chosen according to the after sales service. Our panels also had one or two problems, but we replaced them for free. Along with this, the customer should ask about finance even if he does not want to get finance while installing the solar panel. The bank gives loan on the product only if it is good.

Question: Many houses have 1kw connection and they want to install 3kw solar, so in such a case how can a customer increase his capacity?
answer: We also help people in increasing the capacity of their electricity connection. In many states, this process is online, due to which the connection gets updated immediately. Whereas where the process is not online, the connection capacity is increased through offline means. If there is a need to change the name of the connection, our company gets that done as well.
Question: Many people have this question in their mind that how will this work during winter or rainy season when the sun does not rise for many days?
answer: We install solar panels only where there is electricity connection. We install solar without battery, which is called on grid system. As a user, you will not know whether the electricity is coming from solar or directly from the grid. Your bill will just be less. Solar panels generate electricity even in winter and monsoon, but it is slightly less than in summer.

Question: In America, companies like Tesla also provide batteries, but in India many companies are not using batteries. What are the reasons for this?
answer: Whenever a battery is included, two things increase in it-
- Maintenance
- Cost
The Indian market is very price sensitive. If companies install batteries along with solar, the cost will increase by 50%. Batteries are installed when there is an issue of grid stability. Apart from this, in some places the rate of electricity is low during midnight, early morning and daytime, but increases during peak hours. Batteries can be installed in such situations.
When the electricity rate is high, we use batteries. Whereas, when the electricity rate is low, we charge the batteries. Only then will the decision to install batteries be economically correct.
Question: According to you, what should the government do now to encourage the installation of solar panels?
answer: If the government introduces the facility of virtual net metering, it will be a game changer for this industry. In this, those who do not have space to install solar panels at home can get the panels installed somewhere else. This is being implemented in other countries and a pilot project is also going on in Delhi. In this, people living in apartments can also get solar panels installed.
After the installation of Ramlala in Ayodhya, PM Suryaghar Free Electricity Scheme was announced. In the interim budget also, the government had said that it will provide free electricity up to 300 units every month to one crore families through rooftop solar. After these announcements, a lot of inquiries are coming on our website for solar, those who were earlier thinking about installing panels have now become serious.

PM Narendra Modi launching the Pradhan Mantri Suryodaya Yojana in Delhi.
Question: How did you start your business and how was your journey?
The National Solar Mission was launched in 2008. Starting a solar business in India in 2014 was a tough decision as the market was very unorganized then. There were a lot of local dealers at that time, none of them were operating outside their area/circle. They were only targeting the local market.
Then we started targeting bigger areas with the help of technology. Last year the company’s revenue was Rs 800 crore, which we are planning to double this year. 60% of the business is coming from residential and 40% from MSME. We can list the company in the stock market in 2-3 years.
Question: There are many vendors in the market so how is Freyr Energy different from its competitors?
answer: Five ways in which our company is different:
- Customer Experience
- Financing
- monitoring of assets
- After Sales Support
- Pricing
