The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has withheld the clearance certificate of actor Salman Khan’s film ‘Mathrubhoomi’ till further orders. This film is based on the military clash that took place in the Galwan Valley between the soldiers of India and China in the year 2020.

Earlier this film was named ‘Battle of Galwan’. The film was initially scheduled to be released on April 17 on the occasion of Eid, but later its release date was extended to August. After this decision of the Censor Board, now the August release of the film is also likely to be postponed.

Censor Board withholds certificate till further orders According to the report of NDTV, the Censor Board has currently stopped giving certificate to the film ‘Mathrubhoomi’. The makers of the film were hoping that it would be released in August on the Independence Day weekend, but due to not getting a new certificate, now it seems difficult to do so.

This film has been produced by Salma Khan under the banner of Salman Khan Films and its director is Apoorva Lakhia. Actress Chitrangada Singh, Abhilash Chaudhary and Ankur Bhatia are in lead roles along with Salman Khan in the film. The music of the film has been composed by Himesh Reshammiya.

The name was changed after protests on Chinese social media Controversy started regarding this film even before its release. When the teaser of the film was released in December last year, there was a lot of protest against it on China’s social media platform Weibo. Chinese users had accused the makers of showing the Galwan Valley incident in a wrong manner.

After this controversy, the makers changed the name of the film from ‘Battle of Galwan’ to ‘Mathrubhoomi’. Along with changing the name, some changes were also made in the script and scenes of the film.

Foreign Ministry had given clarification on the film In January this year, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) was also asked questions regarding this film. Then there were reports that the Ministry of External Affairs had expressed objection to this film being made on the clash between the soldiers of India and China six years ago. Giving clarification on this, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal had said that the matters related to film production in India are handled by the concerned authority only.

The Ministry of External Affairs has no role in such matters. He had clarified that no ban has been imposed on the film by the Ministry.

Salman Khan will be seen in the role of Colonel Santosh Babu The teaser of the film ‘Matribhumi’ was released on 27 December 2025, on Salman Khan’s 60th birthday. In this film, Salman Khan is playing the role of Colonel Santosh Babu, commanding officer of 16 Bihar Regiment. Colonel Santosh Babu had led the Indian contingent during the clash with Chinese soldiers in Galwan Valley. He was martyred in this clash.
