Kabir Khan and Salman Khan have done films like Ek Tha Tiger (2012), Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015) and Tubelight (2017).
Filmmaker Kabir Khan arrived at the ongoing 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Panaji, Goa. During the event, in a special conversation with Dainik Bhaskar, he talked about many issues like his projects and working with Salman Khan.
Kabir Khan expressed happiness over his film Chandu Champion’s lead actor Kartik Aryan getting the Best Actor award at the Filmfare Awards 2025.
He said, “Very few actors do the level of hard work that Karthik did for this film. For one and a half years, he completely surrendered himself to the role. He learned boxing, learned swimming, and the most difficult thing was learning swimming without legs. He reduced his body fat from 37 percent to only 7 percent. This is not within the power of any ordinary actor.”
When asked why Kartik Aryan, who is known for his light-hearted roles in films like Pyaar Ka Punchnama and Luka Chuppi, was chosen for a serious and challenging role like Chandu Champion, Kabir Khan said that the specialty of his career has been that he always takes the actors out of their natural image.
He said, “When I took Katrina Kaif in New York, it was the most different role of her career. John Abraham in the film Kabul Express, Ranveer Singh in 83 and Salman Khan in Bajrangi Bhaijaan, all of them played the most challenging characters of their career. Now Kartik has done the same. For me, this is the real fun of cinema, to see that raw material in an actor and mold it into a new character.”

Kabir Khan’s first film as a director was Kabul Express (2006).
On upcoming projects, Kabir Khan said that he is going to announce a new film next month.
He said, “This story is very interesting and it is being made in a very different style. Can’t tell much right now, but it will be a little different from my work till now.”
Kabir Khan spoke on Bajrangi Bhaijaan 2
On the question of working with Salman Khan again, Kabir said, “The pairing of me and Salman has always been special. It has been ten years since Bajrangi Bhaijaan, but people’s love is still the same. People repeatedly ask when will Bajrangi Bhaijaan 2 be made. Salman and I also talk about it, but we both believe that the legacy of such a film should not be spoiled. If we get a great script, we will definitely make it.”

Salman Khan starrer film Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015) had earned more than Rs 900 crore worldwide. The film was directed by Kabir Khan.
There is always a social layer in my films: Kabir
When Kabir Khan was asked that his films always have a social or political layer, does he ever think of doing something new in a different direction, like comedy or action genre?
On this he said, “There is always a social or political layer in my films, because I like watching that kind of cinema, hence I make the same, but if there is comedy like Bajrangi Bhaijaan in a story, then it will come automatically and if there is action in the story like Ek Tha Tiger or Phantom, then that will also come. I never think in terms of genre, but in terms of story. For me, the core is always the human story.”

Kabir Khan has worked with stars like Salman, Ranveer Singh, Kartik Aryan, Saif Ali Khan and John Abraham.
At the same time, when he was asked if there is any actor who is included in his bucket list with whom he wants to work in the future, Kabir said, “There are many. Shahrukh Khan is there. He did a cameo with me in Tubelight, but never did the full film. I also want to work with Aamir Khan and Ranbir Kapoor.”
