US President Donald Trump on Friday appointed Sergio Gore as the next US Ambassador to India. The responsibility of special messengers for South and Central Asian affairs is also entrusted.
Sergio Gore will replace former US Ambassador Eric Garcéeti in India. Garcheti served the post from 11 May 2023 to 20 January 2025. Prior to him, Kenneth Juster (from 23 November 2017 to 20 January 2021) was an US ambassador to India.
Since Garcheti left, the interim charge of the US Embassy in Delhi, D’Af, K.K. He was doing Andrews, who took over this responsibility since 20 January 2025.
In his last weeks, Garcheti gave several speeches, in which he mentioned ‘peace, prosperity and historical achievements for the planet’ regarding the Indo-US partnership.

Sergio Gore is currently appointed as Presidential Personal Director.

Trump wrote on his Truth Social Account- Sergio and his team as President Personnel Director (Presidential Personal Director) have recruited about 4 thousand ‘America First’ Patriots in a record time so far.
He wrote that Gore is a very close friend. They have full faith in them as well. All our departments and agencies have been filled up to 95%. Sergio will remain in its current post until their appointment is confirmed.
Trump further wrote that Sergio has been with me for many years. He worked on my historic presidential election campaigns, published my bestseller books and managed the biggest super pAC to support our movement.
Gore’s role as Presidential Personal Director has been very important. In order to implement my policies in the most densely populated area like Asia, I want a human being, which I can trust. Sergio will carry out this responsibility in a brilliant way. Congratulations Sergio!
Gor appointment amid tariff controversy
Sergio Gore is being appointed at a time when there is a business tension between India and the US. Currently India is facing up to 50% of the American trade tariff, including an additional penalty of 25% on oil purchases from Russia.
The US executive order states that this action has been taken on India due to Russian oil purchases. Earlier, he announced 25% tariff on India on 30 July. Now India will have a total of 50% tariff.
