The second week of August is going on. That is, it is the fifth month of the new academic session in schools, but parents, the new books of NCERT are not available even in the shops of the country’s largest book market ‘Nai Sadak’. The surprising thing is that the books which are missing from the market are being sold on e-commerce sites at 8 to 10 times the price.
According to the new curriculum created under the new education policy, NCERT had to make class 3 and class 6 books available for the session 2024-25. Class 3 books were not available in April-May but are now available but class 6 books are not available. A senior NCERT official said that there is a complaint about books being sold on e-commerce sites.
Many companies complained to NCERT
A company said that the vendors associated with the site have quoted exaggerated prices on their own. The official said that except for Maths, other books are being issued in sufficient numbers every day. NCERT has about 600 vendors who procure books, it is possible that some book sellers have not received books from the vendors yet, so it seems like a crisis which will end soon.
NCERT has also advised students that until they get the new books, they can use the PDF printout of the chapters being studied in class from the website or can read them directly on the website, all the books are available online for free.
Hindi book for 599, discounted price ₹499
Vaibhavi, a parent of children studying in class 6 in Sardar Patel School, said that she ordered the Hindi book Malhar online, the price of which was quoted at Rs 599, but after giving a discount of 25 percent, she got it for Rs 449, shipping charges were extra. Another parent Nidhi Khandekar said that she booked a combo of Hindi-English books for Rs 799.
Jairam’s privilege violation notice against Pradhan
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has given a notice of breach of privilege in the Rajya Sabha against Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for ‘misleading’ the House over the removal of the Preamble of the Constitution from NCERT books. Ramesh said that on August 7, Mallikarjun Kharge had raised the issue of removal of the Preamble of the Constitution of India from the books of classes 3 and 6.
In response to this, the Education Minister said that the textbook of Class VI that has just been released also has a preamble. Ramesh said, this is factually incorrect.
Books are available in less quantity, hence taking advantage
Bookseller Ramesh Vashisht said that NCERT has released books of 9 titles out of 10 books of class 6 except Maths, but currently they are available in less numbers. E-commerce sites are selling fake books at exorbitant prices. The original price of all the books of class 6 is Rs 65 but they are being sold on the sites for Rs 300 to Rs 600.
