Sanjay Dutt recently recalled his jail days in Shekhar Suman’s show Shekhar Tonight and told that during his arrest, he was handcuffed in front of his father Sunil Dutt. At that time his father had tears in his eyes.

Sanjay Dutt was arrested in 1993. He was sentenced to jail for illegal possession of weapons. He was later acquitted of terrorism charges, but convicted under the Arms Act and jailed several times.

Sanjay Dutt told in Shekhar Suman’s talk show that the jail authorities had tried to break him mentally. Shekhar Suman told the audience, ‘Sanjay Dutt was kept in the ‘egg cell’, yet he maintained his mental balance.’ After this he asked Sanjay, ‘Did you ever think of sacrificing your life in such situations?’

Sanjay Dutt replied, ‘Never.’ After this he asked Sanjay, ‘Which was the moment when you felt yourself the weakest?’ Sanjay said, ‘I knew that my father and family had faced very difficult situations. But I never felt weak.

He further said, ‘When the police came for the first time and handcuffed me, my father was shocked. There were tears in his eyes. He said, “What are you doing to my son?”’

Sanjay said, ‘I hugged him tightly and said, “Why are you bothering with these handcuffs? Don’t do this. It’s just a process, please don’t worry.”, when in reality, it was breaking me inside. But I had to stay strong for them.

Sanjay Dutt said that despite stardom and facilities, he never considered himself better than others.

He said, ‘See, even in all these years I have never felt proud of my stardom. There is no such thing in me.

When I couldn’t find cigarettes, I asked for beedis.

According to Sanjay Dutt, the jail authorities felt that taking away his celebrity luxuries would break him.

Sanjay told that the officers made fun of him. One of them came up to him and said, ‘You won’t get cigarettes here.’ Now what will you do now?’ The actor said, “Sir, beedis will be available here.”
