Former Sri Lankan Under-19 captain Dhammika Niroshan was shot dead at his home in Ambalangoda on Tuesday night. Local police have confirmed that an unidentified assailant barged into Niroshan’s house and shot him while he was with his wife and two children.
This incident took place on Tuesday, July 16, at Dhammika Niroshan’s house in Ambalangoda. Ambalangoda police are currently trying to catch the culprit and the investigation into the case is ongoing. Initial investigation has revealed that the accused came with a 12 bore gun.
41-year-old Niroshan represented Sri Lanka at the Under-19 level, he made his debut match against Singapore in 2000. He played Under-19 Test and ODI cricket for two years. Niroshan was a right-arm fast bowler and right-handed batsman. In the 2002 Under-19 World Cup, Niroshan took 7 wickets in 5 innings at an average of 19.28.
According to all the local media reports of Sri Lanka, when this incident happened, the former cricketer was present at home with his wife and two children. The person who allegedly killed the former Sri Lankan captain used a 12 bore gun. As soon as the information about the case was received, the police sent the body for post-mortem. However, it is not yet clear why Dhammika Niroshan was shot. After carrying out the incident, the accused fled from the spot.

Apart from this, Niroshan also scored 269 runs in 19 first class innings, with his highest score being 47*. He played his debut match against Singapore in 2000. Dhammika Niroshan also captained the team on many occasions. Niroshan was a fast bowler and took 7 wickets in 5 innings of the 2002 Under-19 World Cup at an average of 19.28.
Apart from this, in List-A, he took 5 wickets at an average of 29.40, in which 2/18 was his best. Apart from this, he scored 48 runs while batting in 3 innings, in which the highest score was 27 runs.
