Vedanta Group subsidiary Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL) is planning to give a special dividend of Rs 8,000 crore to its shareholders for the current financial year. The company’s board meeting will be held on August 20 to finalize the approval of the dividend.
Recently, the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) has given permission to the company to withdraw Rs 10,383 crore from the general reserve and transfer it to retained earnings. After which the company is planning to give a special dividend to its shareholders.
This information was given by news agency PTI today (15 August) quoting sources. Companies give a part of their profits to their shareholders, it is called dividend.
The company will give ₹ 2,400 crore to the government
According to the report, 30% of the special dividend (about Rs 2,400 crore) will be given to the government as non-tax revenue. The government’s stake in Hindustan Zinc is 29.5%.
Vedanta’s 65% stake in the company will fetch it ₹5,100 crore
At the same time, the share of HZL’s promoter company Vedanta Limited is about 65%. It will get about Rs 5,100 crore as special dividend. Through this, Vedanta can reduce the leverage in its balance sheet.
Special dividend will be different from regular dividend
This special dividend to be given to the shareholders will be different from the annual regular dividend given by the company. Hindustan Zinc gives around Rs 6,000 crore as dividend to its shareholders every year.
The company paid a dividend of Rs 32,000 crore in 2022-23
In the financial year 2023-24, the company gave a total of Rs 5493 crore as dividend to its shareholders. In this, the government got Rs 1622 crore in exchange for 29.5% stake. In the financial year 2022-23, the company gave a record dividend of Rs 32,000 crore to its shareholders. Then the government got Rs 9500 crore.
Vedanta will sell its 3.31% stake in Hindustan Zinc
Vedanta is also going to sell its 3.31% stake in Hindustan Zinc. The company will sell this stake through an Offer for Sale (OFS) issue between August 16 and 19. The company has set a floor price of Rs 486 for this.
