Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday held Congress responsible for the changing demography in Assam. The Home Minister said, I want to ask Rahul Gandhi, what has his party given to Assam apart from guns, bullets, conflict and death of youth.
Shah said that during the Congress rule, the population of infiltrators in Assam increased from zero to 64 lakh and infiltrators became the majority in seven districts. Modi government is working to reverse the demographic trend in the state.
Shah also accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of insulting the Northeast. Addressing a public meeting at the Khanikar Parade Ground in Assam’s Dibrugarh, Shah said all dignitaries, including foreigners, wore scarves as a mark of respect on Republic Day, but Rahul had refused.
Shah further said that Rahul Gandhi can do whatever he wants, but as long as BJP is in power. Our party will not tolerate insult to the culture of North East.

Shah said- Manmohan Singh, who was Rajya Sabha MP from Assam, also could not work.
The Union Home Minister also stressed the role of the Mising community in preventing infiltrators from settling in Assam. It is the responsibility of the Mising community to stop infiltration, he said. You don’t need to pick up a gun.
Talking about the Bogibeel bridge over the Brahmaputra river connecting Dibrugarh and Dhemaji, Shah said it is a symbol of India’s progress in front of the entire world. He said, however, very few people in India know that the Bogibeel Bridge was built by the hard work and sweat of my brothers and sisters of the Mising community.
Today, this bridge has become a powerful representation of the vision of a new India across the country and globally. The Union Home Minister further said that Rajya Sabha MP from Assam Manmohan Singh was the Prime Minister for 10 years, but this bridge remained incomplete. The people of Assam trusted Modi ji and under his leadership this bridge was completed in just four years.
Shah said- Assam tea will be sent to European countries
Shah also said that Congress had released a toolkit to defame Assam and its tea industry. He said the recently signed Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and the European Union will ensure that Assam tea will be sent to European countries without any tariff.
Shah said that BJP had promised in the last elections that its government would make Assam flood free. Steps in this direction have already been taken before the 2026 elections. He appealed to the voters of Assam to “elect BJP for the third consecutive time to ensure development, peace, security, industrial and agricultural progress and to make Assam free from infiltration and floods.
