Vinesh Phogat retired from wrestling after getting disqualified from the wrestling final.
The decision on Haryana wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s silver medal in the Olympics will come on August 13. The Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) gave this information on Saturday night. Earlier the decision was to be announced on August 10 at 9:30 pm, but the court extended its deadline.
.
Initially the verdict was scheduled to be announced on August 11, but it was later postponed to August 13.
Arguments were given in favour of Vinesh in the court that the wrestler did not commit any fraud. After reaching the final, she was a confirmed contender for the silver medal.
On Vinesh’s decision, Neeraj Chopra, who won the silver medal in javelin, said, “If we don’t get a medal, people remember us for some time and say that we are their champions, but if we don’t get a medal, they forget us.
Let us tell you that Vinesh Phogat wrestled in the 50 kg weight category in the Olympics. She reached the finals by defeating 3 wrestlers including Japan’s Olympic champion in one day. However, the next day before the final match, her weight was found to be 100 grams more.
Due to which she was declared ineligible. Regarding this, Vinesh filed an appeal in the sports court. On which a hearing was held.
Hearing in sports court is over
The hearing on Vinesh Phogat’s petition has been completed in the Paris Sports Court. Vinesh also participated in it virtually. Vinesh presented her side for about an hour. The debate went on for about 3 hours. Indian lawyers Harish Salve and Vidushpat Singhania also presented their side on behalf of Vinesh.
Dr. Annabel Bennett heard the arguments of Vinesh, United World Wrestling, International Olympic Committee and IOA for about 3 hours. Before this, everyone was also asked to submit their affidavits. After which this oral debate took place.

These arguments were also put forward in favor of Vinesh
The sports court ruled in Vinesh’s favour that 100 grams of weight is very less. It is not more than 0.1% to 0.2% of the athlete’s weight. It can also easily increase due to the swelling of the human body in the summer season because more water is stored in the body due to the need of human survival due to heat.
Apart from this, Vinesh had to fight 3 competitions in a single day. During this time, she also had to eat to maintain her energy.
Apart from this, the Indian side said that due to the distance between the sports village and the arena of the Olympic Games and the tight schedule of fights on the first day, Vinesh did not get enough time to lose weight. Vinesh’s weight had reached 52.7 kg after fighting 3 wrestling matches on the first day.
The Indian side also said that Vinesh did not have any advantage over other wrestlers by gaining 100 grams of weight. This was just the result of the necessary recovery process. After fighting 3 consecutive matches in a day, her body also needed diet.
The Indian side also argued that there is no fraud or manipulation in the case of Vinesh Phogat. Nor is there any issue of doping.
Having fought all the previous matches well and being disqualified in the final, Vinesh should not be deprived of the silver medal despite her hard work.
Indian Olympic Association said- positive result is expected
Regarding this, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) said- Indian Olympic Association is expecting a positive result. President PT Usha said- It is our duty to support Vinesh. Whatever the decision, we stand with Vinesh.
