Amidst the suspense over the government in Tamil Nadu, Vijay’s party TVK (Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam) has given a big threat. According to sources, it has been said that if by any means a government of DMK and AIADMK is formed in the state, then all the TVK MLAs will resign en masse. Let us tell you that Vijay’s party TVK has won the maximum 108 seats in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Despite this, he is not getting the invitation to form the government.
The Governor returned Vijay empty handed twice. The TVK chief was asked to show the support of 118 MLAs required for majority.
Vijay needs support of 112 MLAs, 118
Out of total 108 seats of TVK, Vijay had won two seats, out of which he will have to give up one. In this way TVK will be left with 107 MLAs. All five Congress MLAs are also in his support. In this way he has 112 MLAs. But Tamil Nadu (Total 234 seats) 118 MLAs are required to form the government.
At present, Vijay is talking to regional parties to form the government. This includes VCK (2 MLAs), Left Party (2 MLAs) etc. Meanwhile, Muslim League, which has two MLAs, has said that no decision has been taken yet on supporting Vijay.
Discussion on alliance of DMK and AIADMK
Meanwhile, news had come that staunch opposition parties, Stalin’s DMK and Palaniswami’s AIADMK, may come together to form the government. If this happens then it will be a big blow for Vijay. Because they have got the maximum number of seats in the elections.
28 MLAs of Tamil Nadu’s AIADMK have been accommodated in a private resort in Puranakuppam, Puducherry. It is being told that all the MLAs are currently present in the resort. However, no official statement has come out on why he has been kept there and what will be the further strategy of the party. But it is believed that these are the MLAs who can even leave the party to support Vijay.
On the other hand, DMK has asked all its MLAs to stay in Chennai till May 10. It has been said that some big decision has to be taken in the interest of the party.
However, there was an attempt by Stalin to put an end to the discussion of alliance. He said that DMK will not bring no-confidence motion for 6 months and the change chosen by the people should be given a chance. But experts believe that by doing this, Stalin does not want to give Vijay a chance to become bigger in the eyes of the public, because if DMK does politics of manipulation or pressure even before the formation of the government, then Vijay can present himself as a hero fighting against the system.
On the other hand, according to Tamil Nadu Lok Bhavan sources, the Governor has assured Vijay that he will not invite any other party to form the government. But the MLAs supporting TVK will have to present the number sheets along with their signatures, only after which the oath taking ceremony will take place.
After this a big debate has started. It is being asked that when Vijay’s party is the largest then why is it not being called to form the government.
What does the Constitution say on disputes?
According to Article 164 of the Indian Constitution, the Governor appoints the Chief Minister. But no specific formula has been given for who should be called. This comes up to the discretion of the Governor. This is the reason why the role of the Governor becomes special in such cases.
According to constitutional experts, the first responsibility of the Governor is to ensure that whoever is made the Chief Minister can prove majority in the House. It is not that the Governor invites someone and despite being the largest party, he is not able to prove his majority.
