25-year-old Indian student Navya Gadusu died in a road accident near Chicago, America. 6 other people have been injured in the accident. The accident occurred late Saturday night on Interstate-65 Highway in Lake County, Indiana state.
According to local media reports, Navya Gadusu was declared dead at 12:16 am. The Lake County Coroner’s Office said he died from serious injuries sustained in a traffic accident.
The Indian Consulate in Chicago expressed grief over the incident and said it was in touch with the victim’s family. “We are deeply saddened by the death of Indian student Navya Gadusu in a road accident. Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this difficult time,” the Consulate wrote on Twitter.
According to Indiana State Police, the accident occurred around 11:15 pm. A red minivan carrying seven people was traveling at a slow speed of 10-15 mph behind a broken-down vehicle.
Meanwhile, the driver of the other car coming behind did not realize the slow speed of the minivan. He tried to swerve the car to escape, but the car collided with the left side of the minivan.
After the collision, the minivan left the road and fell into a ditch. Police said the minivan had only two front seats. The remaining five people were sitting on mango boxes without seat belts.
