A strong earthquake of 6.7 magnitude occurred in the Philippines on Wednesday morning. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter of the earthquake was recorded near Santiago.
In a separate assessment, the USGS also put the magnitude of the earthquake at 6.4, whose epicenter was about 27 kilometers east of the city.
After the earthquake, the administration clarified that no tsunami alert has been issued at present. This means that even though the earthquake was powerful, it is not likely to cause dangerous waves in the sea.
It is noteworthy that the Philippines is located in the ‘Ring of Fire’ region of the Pacific Ocean, where seismic activities often occur due to tectonic plates. Strong earthquakes are common here.
