Tension continues between Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and US President Donald Trump. Trump has threatened to close all airspace over and around Venezuela.

He sent a strong message to drug dealers, human smugglers, airlines and pilots, saying it would be dangerous to fly in the airspace over and around Venezuela.

In response, Venezuela has called it ‘colonial intimidation’ and ‘illegal attack’. Venezuela’s Foreign Ministry said, ‘The United States has no legal right to close the airspace of another country.’

On his social media Truth Social, Trump wrote, “All airlines, pilots, drug smugglers and human smugglers are informed that the entire airspace over and around Venezuela is completely closed.”

At the same time, America has made the largest military deployment ever in the Caribbean Sea. The USS Gerald Ford, the world’s largest aircraft carrier, and about 15,000 US troops are deployed very close to Venezuela.

The deployment is the largest military action in the region since the US invasion of Panama in 1989. America claims that all this is being done to stop drug smuggling. In the last few days, the US Navy attacked 21 boats in which more than 80 people were killed.

According to America, these boats were carrying cocaine and other drugs. Trump threatened on Thursday that action to stop drug trafficking would soon begin “on the ground.”

Maduro has rejected all of Trump’s allegations. He says that the US government wants to oust him from power on the pretext of drug smuggling because America and many western countries are calling the presidential elections held last year as “rigged”.

Meanwhile, Venezuela retaliated by completely banning six major international airlines – Iberia, TAP Portugal, Gol, LATAM, Avianca and Turkish Airlines – from landing in the country. They did not meet the deadline of resuming flights within 48 hours.
