In the US state of Minnesota, a woman has been ordered by the court to write an essay and read a book on voting as punishment for voting in the name of her deceased mother.
Daniel Christine Miller, 51, who lives in the Nashwaak area, voted for Donald Trump in her mother’s name in the 2024 presidential election. Investigation revealed that he had filled out and submitted his mother’s postal ballot, whereas his mother had passed away in August 2024.
Local officials had informed the police about the suspicious ballot papers. Investigation revealed that Miller had also signed his mother’s name and himself as a witness on his voting envelope. He said his mother was a Trump supporter and wanted to vote for him.
Miller admitted in court to signing the false document. She said that she was drunk when she did this and did not remember exactly what happened. The court dropped the other two serious charges and sentenced him to three years’ probation and a fine of $885.
