Among the arrested accused, 22-year-old Malik Bromfield is a Canadian citizen. 25-year-old Faizan Ali is a citizen of Pakistan, while 22-year-old Kamal Salman holds citizenship of Canada, US and Jordan. According to the investigating agencies, Faizan Ali was also found with an expired Pakistani National Driving Permit issued in the name of another person. All three accused have been charged with illegal smuggling from America, unlicensed arms trade, transportation of stolen weapons and illegal possession of weapons. Malik Bromfield has also been charged with the additional charge of possessing illegal weapons while being a foreign national. Officials said that if proven guilty in these cases, there can be a jail term of 5 to 15 years. However, the final punishment will be decided by the court. A joint team of New York State Police, FBI and ATF was involved in the action. US Attorney Jay Clayton said that the accused were trying to send more than 80 weapons to Canada. FBI officials said such smuggling is a major security threat to both countries.
