A film is going to be made on the life of Indian Premier League (IPL) founder Lalit Modi. According to the report of Pinkvilla, this biopic will be produced by Sajid Nadiadwala under his banner Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment.
The work of writing the script of the film is being done by former TV executive and producer Sneha Rajni. This film will be based on the early life of Lalit Modi, the beginning of IPL, his success and later controversies.
Some time ago Ranveer Singh had shown interest in playing the role of Lalit. In an interview given to news agency ANI, Lalit Modi had also confirmed that Ranveer wants to play his role. Lalit has been living in London for about 16 years.

In this biopic, the makers want to show different aspects of Lalit Modi’s personal life and career instead of focusing only on the headlines and controversies. The writing and development work of the film is still going on. While talking to ANI, Lalit Modi had told that a team led by Sneha Rajni has taken dozens of interviews of him.
Sajid Nadiadwala will produce this biopic under his banner Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment.
He also revealed that a few years ago, actor Ranveer Singh had come to London to meet him and he had expressed his desire to play the role of Lalit Modi in the biopic. However, no official announcement has been made yet regarding the star cast and director.

IPL started in 2008, Kochi franchise controversy
- Lalit Modi’s name is known for bringing together Indian cricket, business and entertainment. In the year 2008, while being the Vice President of BCCI, he had introduced the concept of franchise based T20 cricket league ‘IPL’.
- He became its first chairman and commissioner. Within no time, IPL became one of the biggest sports leagues in the world. However, in 2010, a controversy arose over the shareholding of the Kochi Tuskers Kerala franchise.
- Lalit Modi had revealed Sunanda Pushkar’s ‘sweat equity’ shares on social media, after which the then Union Minister Shashi Tharoor had to resign from his post.
How Lalit Modi brought IPL to India
Born in a big businessman family of Delhi, Lalit Modi completed his engineering studies from US. After this returned to India. Here it was seen that people have great passion for cricket. Taking inspiration from American sports, Lalit thought of starting IPL in India. After becoming a member of Himachal, Rajasthan and Punjab Cricket Association, Lalit started working on the plan of IPL in collaboration with BCCI.

- While starting IPL, Lalit Modi had given stake in IPL to many members of his family. As soon as IPL came in 2008, this league became superhit and Lalit received a lot of praise for it.
- Players and BCCI also started benefiting from IPL. After some time, information about IPL and Lalit’s personal interests started coming to the fore and he was removed from the post of Vice President of BCCI after the 2010 IPL final.
- According to reports, BCCI has made 22 allegations against Lalit Modi, which include many allegations like giving contract to his family, using IPL broadcasting for his own benefit, rigging the auction etc.
ED investigation, going abroad and ‘Lalitgate’ controversy
- In 2010, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) began investigating violations of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) during the 2009 IPL held in South Africa. Amidst the issuance of ED summons, Lalit Modi left India and went to London. After this a Blue Corner Notice was issued against him.
- In 2015, this matter turned into a major political controversy when leaked documents revealed that the then External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje had helped Lalit Modi get UK travel documents despite his passport being cancelled. This entire incident was named ‘Lalitgate’ in the media.
Lalit Modi married Meenal, who was nine years older than him, in 1991.
Married to mother’s friend
Lalit fell in love with his mother’s friend Meenal while studying abroad. Meenal was 9 years older than Lalit, yet the closeness between Modi and Meenal started growing. Minal was getting married to Nigerian businessman Jack Sagarani. Just before that, Lalit expressed his love to Meenal, due to which Meenal got angry. He stopped talking to Modi for four years.
