Former head coach of the Indian team, Rahul Dravid has said that the credit for changing the thinking and style of play in India’s white ball cricket goes to Rohit Sharma. Dravid and Rohit together started a new era in the Indian team, in which the team started playing more aggressive and positive cricket.

This change was first seen in the 2023 ODI World Cup, when Rohit Sharma Leading from the front, he took India to the finals. After this, Rohit led the team to the title win in the T20 World Cup 2024 and India ended its 17-year title drought.

Speaking in an interview, Rahul Dravid told that when he became the coach, he and Rohit had a long discussion together on the direction in which India’s white ball cricket should be taken. Dravid said that he is happy that under the captaincy of Rohit, India moved in the same direction.

He said, ‘When I became the coach, the main topic of conversation between me and Rohit was that we have to play cricket more aggressively. We started doing this from the beginning because we knew that the direction of the game was changing and the credit goes to Rohit for implementing this thinking.

He further said, ‘Taking the team in a new direction, playing in a more aggressive and positive manner. This was our thinking. And I am happy that we moved in that direction. Now I feel that India is changing the definition of T20 cricket.

After retiring from T20 International cricket after the 2024 World Cup and from Test cricket in 2025, Rohit Sharma has slightly changed his role in ODIs. Now instead of batting aggressively from the beginning like before, he is playing the role of a batsman who accumulates runs.

In the second and third matches of the ODI series held in Australia, Rohit first consolidated his innings and then hit big shots. He scored 73 and 121 not out runs respectively in these matches. After this performance, Rohit Sharma reached the top position in the ICC ODI rankings. Rohit will now be seen in action in the ODI series against South Africa in November next month.
