According to the report, Putin held a meeting with the local leaders of Kursk on Monday. During this, the head of Kursk, Alexey Smirnov, told Putin that the Ukrainian army has captured several settlements in his area. 12 Russian citizens have also been killed in the Ukrainian attack. 121 people have been injured.

Smirnov said Ukrainian forces had penetrated 30km into Russia. Ukrainian military chief Oleksandr Sirsky, who attended the meeting, told Putin that Ukraine had taken control of about 386 square miles (1,000 square kilometres) of Russian territory.

Smirnov said that 1.21 lakh Russians have been evacuated from their homes and shifted to safer places. About 2,000 Russian citizens are still present in the areas occupied by the Ukrainian army.

Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of Belgorod, near Kursk, said on Tuesday that 11,000 people had been evacuated from the Krasnoyarsk district closest to the Ukrainian border. The rest were being moved.
