The US had captured the Russian flagged ship ‘Marinera’ on January 7.
The US has released two Russian citizens from the seized Russian-flagged oil tanker ship ‘Marinera’. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova issued a statement on Friday giving this information. Maria told that this decision has been taken by President Trump at the request of Russia.
Russia had put pressure on America to release the citizens. The ship was seized by the US on January 7 in the North Atlantic Ocean. However, the three Indian members present on the tanker have not been released yet.
According to the report, a total of 28 people were present on the Marinera ship. These included 17 Ukrainians, 6 Georgians, 3 Indians and 2 Russian citizens.
US officials say the Marinera tanker was part of Russia’s ‘shadow fleet’, which was carrying oil from Venezuela and violated US sanctions.
Another oil tanker caught in the Caribbean Sea
America on Friday captured another oil tanker, Olina, in the Caribbean Sea. According to US officials, this is the third time in the last three days that action has been taken against a banned tanker.
This operation was carried out by US Marines and Navy personnel under Joint Task Force Southern Spear. According to the US statement, the people on board the tanker were safely detained.
The American side said that this operation was conducted on the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Launched from Ford. There was no report of any clash or loss during the entire operation.

Russia had asked to return the citizens safely

The ship changed course due to fear of being caught
After this, this ship was going towards Venezuela, but due to fear of the American block, it changed its route towards the Atlantic, but many countries including America and Britain were monitoring this ship.
Its every move was monitored through air and sea surveillance. The American ship USCGC Munro chased it and caught it.
When American forces boarded it in the North Atlantic, it was accompanied by a Russian submarine and other naval vessels. However, no direct confrontation took place. Russian media have released photos of a helicopter near the ship.
Countries are not able to buy oil due to American sanctions
In fact, in December 2025, US President Trump imposed a blockade on the ‘Shadow Fleet’ to increase pressure on the government of Venezuelan President Maduro. So that it accepts America’s conditions and gives place to American companies in the oil industry.
Due to US sanctions on Venezuela, many tankers were not able to carry oil directly. Therefore Venezuela and its clients (such as China) were using ‘shadow fleets’.
‘Shadow Fleet’ means ships that carry oil by hiding their true location and identity. These tankers turn off their transponders or change their flag so that the US or other countries cannot track them. This is also called ‘dark mode’.
