A Russian court has imposed a fine of 20 trillion dollars on Google. This amount is more than 620 times the GDP of the entire world. This means that if the GDP of all the countries of the world is added 620 times, then only this amount will be accumulated.

In fact, Google had banned 17 pro-Russian YouTube channels in 2020. The channels had filed a court case against this. While hearing in 2020, the court had imposed a daily fine of 1 lakh rubles (Russian currency) till the ban on the channels is lifted.

9 months time was given for this. If the company does not pay the fine during this period, it will double every 24 hours. Now this fine has reached 20 trillion dollars.

This is the whole matter

Russian citizens also demonstrated outside the US Embassy in Moscow to protest against the closure of the YouTube channel.

This case started in 2020 when Google removed 17 pro-Russian channels from YouTube. Government channel Russia-1 was also included in this. After this, Russia-1 anchor Margarita Simonyan had filed a petition in the court. In the decision, the court had fixed a fine of 1 lakh rubles per day.

Google was declared bankrupt in Russia in 2022, but Google’s search engine and services like YouTube are still available in Russia. Russia has banned X and Facebook, but this ban has not been imposed on Google yet. However, Google has reduced its services in Russia.

Such a huge fine is one of the largest penalties in the legal history of the world. Google has said that this will not affect their services.

These countries have also imposed fine on Google

In the last 10 years, different countries have imposed a total fine of 14 billion dollars (11 thousand 620 crore rupees) on Google. India had also imposed a fine of Rs 1338 crore on Google on October 21, 2022 in the case of unfair business practice. In Britain too, Google is accused of unfairly taking advantage of the digital advertising market.
