Rahul Gandhi said that Narendra Modi’s two terms as Prime Minister were the reason for change in the country’s politics.
On the last day of his US tour, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi held a meeting at the National Press Club late on Tuesday night. During this, Rahul once again targeted the BJP. He said- We contested elections with frozen bank accounts. I don’t know of any democracy where this happens. Indian democracy has been attacked in the last 10 years. That’s why it has become very weak.
Rahul Gandhi also spoke openly on PM Modi, BJP, reservation, caste census, situation in Bangladesh, India-China-US relations.
Rahul Gandhi will meet several leaders of the US Congress (Parliament) and interact with think tanks at Capitol Hill in Washington on Wednesday. After this, he will leave for Chicago.

- On Indian politics: Politics in India has changed dramatically since 2014. We have entered a period that we have never seen before in India. This is an aggressive, unrelenting attack on the very foundations of our democratic structure.
- On the ongoing reservation in the country: 90% of India is either tribal, lower caste, Dalit or minority. They lack participation in the government, various institutions and media. We are proposing a survey in India to bring out the reality just like the caste census.
- On caste census: For me and the INDIA Coalition, the question is, is India fair? We have been independent for many years, but how far have we really come? The idea of caste is still alive. We want data on fairness in India, and once we have the data, we can propose policies to correct the imbalances.
- On the controversy over the reservation statement: What we are saying is different from the idea of reservation. We want to make and implement policies to correct what is happening, reservation is one of them. Someone misrepresented my statement that I am against reservation. We are going to increase the reservation beyond 50%.
- On the growing Chinese occupation of India: Chinese troops have occupied land the size of Delhi in Ladakh. This is a disaster. The media does not like to write about it. How would the US react? Would the President get away with saying that the matter has been handled well? Modi is not able to handle China.
- On the growing power of China: Earlier the western countries, US, Europe and India used to be the producers, but then we decided to stop production and handed it over to China. For a country like India, neglecting manufacturing and promoting services means that India cannot provide enough employment opportunities for its people.
- On India-US relations: I don’t think there will be much difference of opinion between Trump and Kamala Harris on Indian policy. The relationship between the two countries is fundamentally accepted by both sides. So I don’t think there will be much difference of opinion with Modi on this issue, but I could be completely wrong.
- On India Connect Tours: We were forced to take out a political yatra because nothing was working in democracy. We went and it worked. Personally, I always wanted to do this. Since childhood, I thought that at some point in my life, I should travel around my country and see what it is.
- On legal matters: We had no money during the elections. Our bank accounts were frozen. In Indian history, I am the only person to be sentenced to jail for defamation, there are 20 cases against me. We have a Chief Minister who is in jail right now.
The statement on reservation caused a ruckus in the country Earlier on Tuesday, Rahul answered the question of ending reservation at Georgetown University. He said, “Congress will think about ending reservation only when everyone in the country starts getting equal opportunities. At present, such a situation does not exist in India.”
After this statement of Rahul, Mayawati in India has condemned his statement. She said, “Be cautious of Rahul’s drama, he is engaged in a conspiracy to end reservation.” At the same time, BJP leader and former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad targeted Rahul over his statement on reservation.
The BJP leader said that “Opposition to reservation is his legacy. Rahul is committing the biggest fraud and betrayal with the very Constitution with which he roams around.”
Ravi Shankar Prasad said that this is a well thought out strategy and conspiracy to end reservation. Their claim of protecting the Constitution is a sham. Whenever Rahul Gandhi goes abroad, his aim is to humiliate and insult India. His love for China comes to the fore there.
Rahul’s 5 big points from ending reservation to UCC…
1. Now is not the right time to end reservation: Congress will think about ending reservation when the time is right. When you look at the financial figures, tribals get 10 paise out of Rs 100, Dalits get Rs 5 out of Rs 100 and OBCs also get almost the same amount.
2. Caste census is necessary: India’s Dalits, OBCs and Adivasis are not getting their rights. OBCs, Dalits and Adivasis, who constitute 90% of the country’s population, are not even in this game. Caste census is an easy way to know the condition of lower castes, backward castes and Dalits.
3. We have run coalitions before: Our alliance (INDIA) agrees that the Constitution of India must be protected. India’s business cannot be run by just two people, Adani and Ambani. We have repeatedly run alliance governments, which have been successful. We are confident that we can do it again.
4. If there were fair elections, BJP would not have been close to 246: The education system is captured by the RSS. They have captured the media and the investigative agencies. I started putting the Constitution in the forefront. People understood that this is a fight between those who are protecting the Constitution and those who want to destroy it. I don’t think that if there were fair elections, BJP would have got close to 246.
5. Will not comment on UCC right now: We will comment on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) only when we know what the BJP’s proposal is. We have not seen it. We don’t know what they are talking about. There is no point in us commenting on it. When they bring it, we will see it and comment on it.
