In ‘Ramayana’, Ranbir Kapoor is playing the role of Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi Sita and Yash Ravana. This film, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, will be released in two parts.

Mukesh Khanna has raised questions on the portrayal of Lord Ram in Ranbir Kapoor’s film ‘Ramayana’. He objected to showing more VFX and action in the film.

Mukesh Khanna said that in the film, Lord Ram has been shown like an action hero instead of having the qualities of Maryada Purushottam. He also raised questions on the scene of Ranbir Kapoor climbing a tree and shooting an arrow.

In an interview given to Bollywood Now, he said, “Ram is Maryada Purushottam. He used to smile. Shri Ram was made into Salman Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Rajinikanth.”

Question on action scene of Lord Ram

Mukesh Khanna especially objected to the scene in which Ranbir Kapoor, in the role of Lord Ram, is seen climbing a tree and shooting arrows.

He said that in the versions of Ramayana that he had read or seen, Lord Rama was not shown in this manner.

He said, “Ramji did not fight like this.” Mukesh Khanna further said that the character has been made a ‘man of action’. He also compared Lord Ram with Clint Eastwood.

Objection to use of VFX also

Mukesh Khanna also talked about the large-scale visual effects i.e. VFX done in ‘Ramayana’.

He said that international audiences can watch the film as a large-scale fantasy film. At the same time, the Indian audience will see the portrayal of Lord Ram from a religious and cultural perspective.

He said, “But in India if you are showing Ram, then show it with faith.”

Can’t accept Ranbir as Ram: Shiv Sagar

Earlier, Shiv Sagar, grandson of filmmaker and Ramanand Sagar, who made the famous 1987 TV series ‘Ramayana’, had expressed his opinion on the casting of Ranbir Kapoor. He had said that after seeing Ranbir’s character in ‘Animal’ it was difficult for him to accept him as Lord Ram.

According to Shiv Sagar, a fresh face should have been chosen for a character like Lord Ram. He says that the audience does not have any pre-existing image associated with the new face.

However, he also clarified that he has no problem with Ranbir Kapoor’s acting. He had called Ranbir a good actor. Shiv Sagar also praised the rest of the casting of the film, especially Yash and Sai Pallavi. Read the full news here…

Ranbir had given the answer

During the film’s San Diego Comic-Con showcase in July, Ranbir Kapoor responded to criticism over his casting for the role of Lord Ram.

Ranbir had said, “Every person who watches Ramayana has a different image and interpretation of Lord Ram. There is no fixed face for it. Many people may think that I am wrong casting, while some will feel that I am right casting. But honestly speaking, the right casting for the character of Ram would be the actor who has the right intentions, belief and faith towards this journey.”
