India has lost 9 tests under the coaching of Gautam Gambhir. This included a 3-0 clean sweep of New Zealand at home.
Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has said that the batsmen of the Indian Test team are currently playing in an environment of fear and insecurity. He says that the team management led by Gautam Gambhir is not showing confidence in the batsmen.
According to Kaif, due to frequent changes players feel that their place is in danger. This fear is also visible in his batting. In fact, a day earlier, India had lost against South Africa by 30 runs in just two and a half days in the first Kolkata Test.

Mohammad Kaif has scored 624 runs in 13 tests for India.
No confidence in players- Kaif Kaif said- When players feel insecure about their place and get such a turning pitch from above, then it is difficult to play well. There were many changes in the Test team during Gambhir’s tenure, understand them from the pointers given below-
- After Gambhir became the coach, two senior Indian players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retired from Test cricket on 7 and 12 May.
- Due to poor performance in the first Test against New Zealand in 2024, KL Rahul was dropped from the second Test.
- Sarfaraz Khan, who scored an average of 63 in first class cricket under Gambhir’s coaching, was also not selected. He also scored a century against New Zealand. After this he was taken on Australia tour but was not given a chance in a single match.
- Something like this happened with Sai Sudarshan recently. He scored 87 runs in his last Test against West Indies, but he was not allowed to play the next Test.

Sarfaraz Khan has scored 4796 runs in first class cricket at an average of 63.10.
Questions on team combination also Kaif also raised questions on the team’s combination. He said, India entered this test with a strange combination. The team sent Washington Sundar at number-3. Also kept 6 bowlers, out of which 4 were spinners. According to him, it was not right to play Dhruv Jurel along with Rishabh Pant. With these changes the batting looked even weaker.
Eden Gardens pitch also spoiled the work Kaif said, there was bounce and turn on the pitch from the beginning. Neither of the two teams could score 200 runs. India itself had asked for a spinning pitch, but it backfired. Chasing the target of 124, Yashasvi and KL Rahul were out early. After this Simon Harmer and Keshav Maharaj turned the match.
