Yesterday’s big news was related to the announcement of assembly elections in two states. Voting will be held in three phases in Jammu and Kashmir and in single phase in Haryana. Their results will be declared on October 4. The second big news was of the Kolkata doctor rape case, CBI has taken former principal Sandeep Ghosh into custody.

1. CBI detains former principal in Kolkata rape-murder case, family also suspects interns and doctors

CBI will question the former principal of Radha Govind Kar Medical College and Hospital. He resigned on August 12.
In the rape-murder case of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, CBI spoke to the victim’s family. The family has suspected some interns and doctors of the hospital of being involved in this case. CBI said that the victim’s family has written down some names. We will question 30 people now. The investigating agency has also detained the former principal of the hospital, Sandeep Ghosh. He will also be questioned.
TMC-BJP performance: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took out a rally demanding death penalty for the culprit. In response, BJP also demonstrated. BJP accused the government of punishing the culprits of the female doctor’s murder and destroying evidence. Along with this, BJP leaders demanded resignation from Mamata Banerjee. There was a clash between the police and the protesters. After this, state BJP president Sukanta Majumdar and other workers were taken into custody.
High Court said- Police is not able to protect itself: A hearing was held in the Calcutta High Court on the violence that took place in Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital. The court reprimanded the state government and the police and said that a crowd of 7 thousand had come to vandalize the hospital. What was the police doing? On this, the state government said – tear gas shells were fired to control the violence. 15 policemen including the DCP were also injured. On this, the court said that the police is not able to protect itself. How will it protect the doctors.
2. Voting in Jammu and Kashmir on 18 September and in Haryana on 1 October, results will be declared on 4 October
Election Commission announced the dates for assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana. Voting for 90 assembly seats in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in 3 phases on 18 September, 25 September and 1 October. Voting for all 90 seats in Haryana will be held in a single phase on 1 October. Results of both states will be declared on 4 October. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that elections in Maharashtra will be held later due to the festival. He did not mention Jharkhand. The term of Haryana government ends on 3 November, Maharashtra on 26 November and Jharkhand on 5 January.
Election Commission discussed Lok Sabha elections: Rajiv Kumar said that the Lok Sabha elections were conducted peacefully. The whole country celebrated the festival of elections. Long queues were seen, the elderly and the youth went to cast their votes. The country saw a living example of democracy. He said that by-elections on 46 assembly seats across the country will be announced when the time comes. By-elections cannot be held on the Wayanad seat right now due to natural disaster. But voting will take place there on time.
3. Violence after children’s fight in Udaipur, Rajasthan, mob burnt vehicles, vandalized mall; Section 163 imposed

After a fight between students in Udaipur, angry people set vehicles on fire. A huge crowd gathered outside Maharana Bhupal (MB) Hospital.
Violence broke out in Udaipur, Rajasthan after a fight between two students of a government school. The mob vandalized a shopping mall and pelted stones. Cars parked in a garage were also set on fire. The police lathicharged the protesters and dispersed them. After this, the collector imposed Section 163 in the city.
What is the whole matter: A fight broke out between two students in a government school in Surajpol police station area. One student stabbed the other student and injured him. After this, the minor accused fled. The school teacher admitted the injured student to the hospital. As soon as the matter came to light, Hindu organizations closed the shops in the city. After this, the mob turned violent. Collector Arvind Poswal said that the minor student has been taken into custody and his father has been arrested.
4. Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor called PM Modi, assured the safety of Hindus
Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the phone. He assured the safety of Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh. During the conversation, Modi said that India supports the restoration of democracy, stability and peace in Bangladesh. In fact, Prime Minister Modi had expressed concern about the safety of Bangladeshi Hindus in his speech from the Red Fort on August 15.
Attacks on Hindus increased: Attacks on minority Hindus have increased continuously during the violent protests in Bangladesh. So far, more than 205 cases of attacks on Hindus have been reported. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that we are constantly monitoring the situation.
5. National Film Awards- Manoj Bajpayee’s Gulmohar became the Best Hindi Film, Rishab Shetty became the Best Actor for Kantara

Manoj Bajpayee and Sharmila Tagore’s film Gulmohar was chosen as the best Hindi film at the 70th National Film Awards. Kantara won the Best Actor and Best Film awards. Rishab Shetty was chosen as the best actor for the film. Nithya Menon for the Tamil film Tiruchitraambalam and Manasi Parekh for the Gujarati film Kutch Express became the best actresses.
Sooraj Barjatya became the best director: Sooraj Barjatya has won the Best Director award for the film ‘Ounchai’. Neena Gupta has won the Best Supporting Actress award for the same film. Arijit Singh has won the award for Brahmastra in the playback singing category. These awards have been given for those films which have been given censor certificate by the Film Censor Board between 1 January 2022 and 31 December 2022. The award ceremony will be held in October 2024.
6. Attempt to molest a trainee doctor in Tamil Nadu, young man took off his pants in the medical college, girl ran away to save herself
A case of attempted molestation of a trainee doctor has come to light in a medical college in Tamil Nadu. This incident took place on August 14 at Coimbatore Medical College. At around 9 pm, the trainee doctor (house surgeon) went to pick up her scooty parked near the Dean’s office. A 25-year-old youth was present there. He took off his pants in front of the trainee doctor and tried to molest her. The trainee doctor pushed him away and ran towards her hostel in the hospital campus. During this time, the accused also ran away from there. After this, the other doctor immediately informed the hospital security guards.
The accused is a resident of MP: The accused was caught from the hospital at around 1 am late night. The police has arrested him. The youth has been identified as 25-year-old Mayank Galar. Police said that the accused is a resident of Hoshangabad in Madhya Pradesh. He was roaming around the railway station. From there he reached the medical college.
7. Flood in 250 villages of Uttar Pradesh, SDRF recovered 3 bodies buried in debris for 16 days on Kedarnath route

Due to heavy rains in Uttar Pradesh, flood-like situation has arisen in 15 districts. 250 villages of Lakhimpur Kheri are flooded. 2.50 lakh people are affected by this. On the other hand, SDRF on Thursday removed the bodies buried in the debris for 16 days in Kedarnath, Uttarakhand. About 15 thousand people were stranded here after the cloudburst on 31 July. District Disaster Management Officer said that the search operation is still going on. Some more bodies buried in the debris can also be found.
