On Sunday, 10 people were shot dead in Tehuitzingo, Puebla state, Mexico. According to news agency AP, the murder was committed by entering the house. The dead include 6 men, 3 women and a child.

According to officials, neighbors informed the police after hearing the gunshots. When the police reached the spot, many people were found injured by bullets inside the house. A woman was being taken to hospital, but died on the way.

Tehuitzingo is a city of about 11,300 people, about 208km from Mexico City. Mexico is going to co-host the FIFA World Cup from June 11. 13 matches will be played in Mexico City, Monterrey and Guadalajara. President Claudia Sheinbaum has announced the deployment of 1 lakh security personnel.

No trace of the attackers yet

The Puebla government said the victims were attacked by armed men. No arrests have been reported so far. The reason for the attack is also not clear. Officials are investigating the matter. Puebla Governor Alejandro Armenta has also not yet given any statement on this incident.

The National Guard, the state Attorney General’s Office, state and local police along with intelligence teams are also involved in the investigation. Officials said efforts are being made to find out who is behind the attack.

Violence linked to drug cartels has increased in central Mexico in recent months. According to reports, due to this 800 to 1,000 families have been forced to leave their homes.

According to the New York Times report, El Mencho was the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). The Jalisco Cartel is notorious for manufacturing and selling drugs in Mexico, extorting money from local businesses, and terrorizing many areas.

This cartel has its presence in 50 states of America. The US government had placed a reward of Rs 136 crore on Al Mencho. US President Trump had been pressuring Mexico to take action on El Mencho for a long time.
