The 26/11 attacks shook Mumbai, the bullets stopped, but the fight for justice continued. A major battle against terror was fought in the court.

‘Prahar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam’ is the story of this legal struggle, where arguments replace weapons and every piece of evidence matters. The strong acting of Rajkumar Rao and Lalit Prabhakar makes the film special.

Along with the fight for justice in the court, this story peeks into the personal life of a lawyer, where it is not easy to balance the responsibility of the country and the family.

Dainik Bhaskar has given 4 star rating to this 2 hour 20 minute film directed by Avinash Arun.

Story: Case in court, test of relationships at home

The film tells the story of Ujjwal Nikam (Rajkummar Rao), a well-known government lawyer in the country who fights a legal battle to get 26/11 attack accused Ajmal Kasab punished. Along with the trial of Kasab (Lalit Prabhakar), the film also shows Ujjwal’s relationship with his wife Jyoti Nikam (Vamika Gabbi) and son Aniket. How much time is he able to devote to his personal life in his insistence on providing justice to others, this is the emotional aspect of the story.

Acting: Rajkumar’s pause, Lalit’s strong style

Rajkummar Rao has played the character of Ujjwal Nikam with sincerity and ease. His facial expressions and dialogue pauses make the character believable. At the same time, Lalit Prabhakar has created restlessness and uneasiness in the character of Ajmal Kasab. Especially his acting in the last part attracts attention. Jaideep Ahlawat, Sikandar Kher and Ashish Vidyarthi give strength to their characters, while Vamika Gabbi brings emotional connect to the story.

Direction and cinematography: Serious story, somewhat slow pace

Avinash Arun’s direction keeps the story away from unnecessary filmy drama. It is a good attempt to strike a balance between court proceedings and Ujjwal’s personal life. The cinematography also suits the serious atmosphere of the film. However, the screenplay slows down in some parts. Some scenes could have created more excitement for viewers familiar with the events in question. Music: ‘Mere Rahte’ leaves an impact

There is only one song in the film, ‘Mere Rahte’, which comes at the end and leaves an emotional impact even after the film ends. The background score adds to the tension of the court and goes with the seriousness of the story.

Final Verdict

The biggest strength of ‘Prahar’ is the acting of Rajkummar Rao and Lalit Prabhakar. Despite the slow pace at some places, the film keeps the audience engaged who like courtroom drama and stories based on real events. It reminds that the fight for justice does not end even after the bullets stop.
